Celebrating their decade-long marriage milestone in September 2023, LeBron James and Savannah James continue to exemplify support for each other. Hailing from Akron, the couple’s relationship predates their 2013 wedding by another ten years.

With three children and thriving careers, they have grown as individuals, partners, and dedicated parents while contributing to their community. While most basketball wives savor the spotlight, Savannah shies away from it. Like most fans say, “she is the Beyonce” of basketball wives.

Savannah James isn’t one to revel in the limelight of marrying a basketball star. Moreover, stepping on red carpets or appearing on television makes her feel a “bit clammy.” As a dedicated philanthropist, she engages in various projects, from spearheading fundraising initiatives to inspiring young women to launching her mentorship program in 2017.

As the youngest of five children, Savannah maintains privacy. However, she gladly steps into the public eye for her philanthropic work. While consistently working to make positive changes in the lives of others, Savannah is devoted to her role as a mother and wife. Her journey regarding this began in 2002 when she first met LeBron.

The Genesis of Their Connection

Back when LeBron James was a 17-year-old junior at St. Vincent-St. Mary and Savannah a 16-year-old sophomore at rival Butchel, fate had its way. A mutual friend informed Savannah that LeBron had asked for her phone number.

With limited knowledge about LeBron then, Savannah decided to take his number instead. The details slipped her mind until she was “probably bored or something.” Upon calling him, LeBron invited her to one of his basketball games, followed by a group outing to the local Applebee’s. Their first solo date quickly ensued.

Playfully teasing in an interview, Savannah said, “He met me! I didn’t meet him!” Their first date at Outback Steakhouse was smooth. Moreover, LeBron, mindful of the rules, left a lasting impression on Savannah’s dad by ensuring she was home on time.

From that point, they have been together, with LeBron continuing to impress Savannah to this day. In 2017, Savannah said, “He is truly a king to his queen, if you will.” She mentioned the respect he shows her, the kids, his mom, and everyone in the circle.

Despite his success and achievements, she described him as remarkably humble. In a reciprocal statement, LeBron noted the depth of their connection when he received the Icon 360 Award in 2018. During his acceptance speech, he said, “Savannah was with me shooting in the gym before when I had absolutely nothing. So thank you. I will love you forever for that.”

The couple welcomed three children from their early days shooting hoops together. Their firstborn, a son, LeBron Jr., arrived when they were teenagers. Two years later, the family expanded with the arrival of their second son, Bryce Maximus.

Eight years later, their daughter, Zhuri, joined the circle. LeBron firmly believes in perseverance, and Savannah collaborated to create a parenting strategy that suited their family. Reflecting on his past, LeBron said, “I couldn’t imagine being 16 years old and having a kid without the means, without a support system.”

He continued, “Because of you, Gloria James, I’m able to receive this award today.” LeBron’s upbringing and his mother’s sacrifices were crucial in shaping the man he is today. Gloria, a single mother, faced several challenges in making ends meet.

Although he is a superstar today, LeBron James once had it rough. Growing up in Akron, Ohio, LeBron and his mother, Gloria, lived in Gloria’s mother’s house. Sadly, when LeBron was just 3, Gloria’s mom passed away from a heart attack.

While recounting the hardship, he said, “Everything changed. With my mom being so young and lacking any support, skills, and education to get ahead.”

He continued, “It was really a hard time for us. We lost the house.” Over the next three years, the mother-son duo faced considerable instability, moving a dozen times, creating a “scary” time for him. However, despite the hardships, Gloria took on several jobs to make ends meet. Throughout it all, she ensured that LeBron always felt safe.
