After former President Donald Trump was found guilty of 34 felonies last week, Republicans have rallied at his side, raising millions of dollars of revenge money. Many Republican Senators have also vowed to block their Democratic counterparts from passing bills in Congress by voting against their proposals every time they try to introduce a new one.

Donald Trump has had several serious cases against him since he left office. Last week, a court found Trump guilty on 34 felony counts, from his payment of hush money to one pork actress before the presidential elections in 2016. However, this has angered his Republican supporters and they are organizing a fundraising campaign to help him get his revenge on his opponents.

During Trump’s trial, he was accused of several felonies, including the falsification of business records. However, Trump has denied these allegations several times, calling the trial an agenda against him. Since the court found him guilty, there has been a massive influx of money into the former president’s campaign fund and the GOP as well.

A Surge in Funds

When the news of the guilty verdict spread, many Republicans were not happy with it. Therefore, they decided to take matters into their own hands and help Trump by donating a lot of money to his campaign and party. His campaign committee and the Republican National Committee revealed that the supporters donated tens of millions of dollars in a few days after the trial. This brought the amount raised in May to $141 million.

This is a significant increase compared to the party’s previous earnings. In April, they reported $76 million dollars earned and this was the first time the Republicans had earned more than their Democratic rivals. Therefore, the $141 million revenue in May is a massive increase that can help Trump rival Biden’s ground operations in swing states.

Over Two Million Donors

According to the Trump Campaign, over two million donors helped them achieve the $141 million mark. These people donated an average of $70.27. In addition, about $37.6% of these donations came in within twenty-four hours of Trump’s guilty verdict being announced to the general public. Therefore, it was obvious that the verdict caused a high surge in donations.

The Revenge of Republicans

The Republicans are not happy with this verdict and have been quite vocal about it. This is because they believe that the trial was political because it took place just before the presidential elections. Therefore, Republican lawmakers have made several threats and promoted to oppose and obstruct any and all proposals from the Democratic lawmakers in places of power.

Republicans Complain

Eric Schmitt, a Republican Senator, is one of many Republican lawmakers who have vowed to block the progress of any Democrats in the Senate. He believes that Trump’s enemies used this trial against him to give Joe Biden the upper hand in the upcoming election. Therefore, he urges Americans to think for themselves, as he believes a Republican-run country will be more beneficial.

Blocking Democrats in Congress

On Friday, 31st of May, just a day after the verdict was announced, eight Republican senators released a joint statement bashing the Biden administration. They accused the administration of making a mockery of the rule of law and turning the judiciary system into a political agenda. On X, Mike Lee, who is one of the conservative senators, also expressed his disapproval and promise against the Democrats, asking his other senators to join their stand.

However, the general public and several commenters on X have been highly critical of the accusations by the Republicans. Many believe that it doesn’t make sense to them. One user noted that since Trump was convicted in an impartial state court in New York, his verdict should not reflect negatively on the Biden administration or the White House in any way.

Some Support Republicans

However, the minority in the comments supported the Republicans and applauded their actions. One X user said that he believed everyone involved in the trial against Trump should be subpoenaed, indicted, prosecuted and also jailed for their actions. Others also urged more Republicans to join in and put their names on the letter.

Republicans Cannot Do Much

In reality, the Republicans who have threatened to block the progress of Democrats in the Senate cannot do much between now and the election. They have also admitted this publicly. However, another one of the Republican Senators, Tommy Tuberville, said that Republicans need to stand up for America regardless. This is because he believes Trump’s case was an attack on the “true” American people.

Since the Democrats currently control the Senate and have a higher number of representatives, the efforts by the Republicans to block them will most likely be futile. Regardless of the minority disadvantage, this move shows Trump’s supporters that his fellow Republicans have not turned their backs on him and are still willing to go to great lengths to defend the former president.
