Cardi B has always been known to make a statement with her choices of outfits for the Met Gala. Last year, the “WAP” rapper had somewhat different outfits. For her first outfit, she wore a pink chiffon gown with floral-like wings behind her.

Then, for the red carpet, Cardi B wore a black studio gown with huge black roses on the skirt-like part of the gown. She wore the dress over a sleeveless white shirt and tie and had a grey hairdo. For the main event, she wore a gown designed by Richard Quinn, but her hairstyle remained the same.

If the American rapper pulled off various outfits for last year’s Met Gala, you could only imagine what her outfit this year looked like.

For the 2024 Met Gala on May 6, Cardi B made an entrance in a dress that covered the entire stairway. The gown even needed her whole team to help lift it so she could walk on the stairway. The rapper’s outfit was a black tulle dress that looked like it was made with almost 10,000 feet of organza.

The black tulle dress had a v-neck, with some fabrics flaring out like wings. It was also fitted from the thighs to the knee and cascaded out dramatically. While Cardi B was on the red carpet, the host asked the name of her designer. However, she completely forgot how to pronounce it, stirring up side comments from viewers.

However, on May 7, she posted a picture on Instagram and tagged the designer’s name. The 10,000-foot tulle dress was designed by Sensen Like, who has the Chinese label Windowsen. According to the designer, the gown had an inner and outer layer.

The dress’s color was to represent fertile black soil, which fits the description of the Met Gala’s dress code, “Gardens of Time.” He said, “The stars accentuating the Met Gala dress with pops of emerald is to represent new plant life.”

Cardi B wore emerald chandelier earrings, rings, and a cuff around her wrist. She had her nails painted green to match the color of her jewelry. Then, for her makeup, she added a bit of green to her smokey eyeshadow.

Cardi B Reveals Original Look

Before the Met Gala, Cardi B revealed the initial look she planned for the event. In a behind-the-scenes video she shared on her TikTok page, the 31-year-old rapper had old lady-like makeup on. It looks like she planned to pull an unrecognizable look for the event.

After the event on May 6, her makeup artist, Erika La’ Pearl, shared some comments on the look on her IG page. La’ Pearl said Cardi B planned to have an old lady look for the event. Her idea was to have grey hair with wrinkles and a full beat.

However, before the event, the rapper changed her mind and decided not to go for the look. Alexis Stone, the mastermind of the hyper-realistic makeup, explained the makeup process. Stone said, “Cardi B had to get a 3D scan from her neck up and 18 pieces of prosthetics on her face, neck, arms, and hands.”

“I had to fly down to New York to test the-run the look on Saturday before the event, but creative directions got changed,” Stone added. On the other hand, Tokyo Stylez— the hairstylist responsible for transforming Cardi B’s wig that turned her into an old lady, referred to her as Cardi G. The G stands for granny.

For the Met Gala after-party, Cardi B changed her outfit. The “Bodak Yellow” rapper wore a custom-made dress by Revolve Atelier. The dress was a sequin corset made of draping fabric at her hips, which made it look like Cardi B had a coat tied around her body. Following a press release, the rapper revealed her outfit was inspired by “runway corsetry and draping.”
