The Great Pyramid of Giza was built by Egyptians during the Old Kingdom period. The pyramid was built over an estimated period of 20 years. However, the building style is quite different from what we have today. Therefore, there are many ancient mysteries that experts have yet to decipher about the Great Pyramid of Giza.

The walls of the pyramid are made completely from limestone bricks which sit on twenty-five layers of masonry below. However, in the Queen’s Chamber, there is pink granite present just before entering. This has made researchers believe that there used to be a lot more of that before explorers stole them. They also wonder if there were statues before as the walls had no paintings, murals or carvings.

There are a lot of secret doors in the Great Pyramid of Giza that experts still don’t understand. In 2002, they tried to find the real purpose of these doors by using a really small robot to bypass the first door. This had a camera attached to it. However, the camera did not get so far before it hit another door, further increasing the mystery.

Robert Richardson and his Djedi team found evidence that the secret doors and shafts were a part of complex religious ceremonies. The camera footage showed corners and revealed the stones which were carved with red hieroglyphics which they have not yet interpreted completely. The back of the shafts also had metal pins that the researchers are yet to understand.

The main purpose of the pyramids was to be burial sites for Egyptian mummies. They are proof that the ancient Egyptians believed that they would become gods after death. Therefore, pyramids were exclusively for pharaohs and their queens. However, the Great Pyramid, which is the most famous one, did not have the bodies of King Khufu and his mother, Queen Hetepheres, but only their empty sarcophagus.

They also give deep information about the culture, lifestyle, and history of the people that existed in Egypt many years ago. The Grand Gallery in the Pyramid is one of the longest straight passageways in Egypt. It is a tight and steeply slanted hallway that was discovered in 1881 by Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie. However, it remains one of its lesser-known discoveries even though it has a very unique structure. Scientists are also not sure what its purpose was but some believe it was used to drain water away from the pharaoh’s burial chamber below.

Majority of Egypt’s many pyramids are located west of the Nile river. Some experts believe that this was done on purpose while some attribute it to coincidence. Those who believe it was on purpose claim that it was done so that the souls of the deceased could easily find their final resting place. Therefore, an afterlife boat ride that went downriver toward the spirit world would convey them to their resting place.
