Crime does not always pay. Just ask this Texas man who got arrested in Illinois recently.
According to sources, the arrest happened after a traffic stop led the police to find cocaine in a cheeseburger.

How It Started

Things kicked into motion around 7 p.m. on November 5, 2023. At the time, deputies were on patrol around the Road Ranger Travel Center on State Route 148 near I-57.
The area was part of the detour around the temporary I-57 traffic closure. The deputies pulled into the Road Ranger Travel Center parking lot and spotted a suspicious man.

The man stood near a vehicle with Texas plates at the gas pumps.
According to law enforcement officials, the man tried to hide by lowering his body and turning his face away from the deputies as soon as he spotted them.

A Dead Giveaway

Hiding from law enforcement agents usually means one of two things: you’re on the run or are about to do something criminal.
However, the man’s attempt to hide his face was a dead giveaway that something weird was happening, and the trained deputies quickly keyed into the situation.

An Extended Observation

The deputies claimed the man seemed nervous, so they parked in one of the spots in the lot and continued observing him.
He was joined by another man who turned out to be the vehicle’s driver. Before they left, the two lingered to ensure their lights and brakes were working properly.

A Creeping Suspicion

The vehicle drove west on State Route 148, and the deputies thought it was the last they would see of it.
However, after driving on Grange Hall Road, deputies spotted a car making a U-turn in the middle of the road. It made them stop in the roadway.

Deputies realized the vehicle was the same as the one from the travel center before, which got them even more curious about what was happening.
The vehicle stopped on the road, and the passenger stepped out of the vehicle. He walked towards the marked patrol cruiser and was recognized as the nervous man from the travel center.

His Name is Jesus

The cops spoke to the man and the driver. The suspicious man was later identified as Jesus A. Garza Trevino.
Trevino told them he came from Laredo, Texas, and was headed to Ligonier, Indiana. However, he did not have a precise destination. He claimed someone would reach out to him with where to meet when he got close to the town.

A K9 Cop Solved the Mystery

It did not take long for a K9 officer to arrive on the scene. Upon arriving, the K9 started an air sniff around the vehicle.
It was immediately alerted to a narcotics odor coming from the vehicle. Furthermore, this prompted the deputies to search the car, which led to the discovery of a brown glove in a void behind the glove compartment.

What They Found

He wrapped the glove in electrical tape and looked suspicious. After officers got past the tape, they discovered a white, powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine.
The cops continued the search until they found a Wendy’s bag containing a cheeseburger. Unwrapping the cheeseburger, they found an object wrapped in black electrical tape. In addition, it also field-tested positive for cocaine.

The authorities noted the suspected cocaine weighed about a total of two ounces, and they seized it.
Additionally, Trevino allegedly admitted that the cocaine belonged to him. He also revealed he was planning on selling it in Indiana. He could have gotten away with it, too, but for the nosy cops.

He is being held on charges of possession of a controlled substance, controlled substance trafficking, and delivery of controlled substance.

What Happened To The Driver?

There is not much information on what happened to the car’s driver, but if he was found guilty, he would undoubtedly be made to pay for his crime.
Do you think he had anything to do with the cocaine they found? Why do you think Trevino was acting so nervous that he gave himself away?
