The FSIS announced on January 3rd, 2024, recalling almost 7,000 pounds of raw grounded beef produced by Valley Meats, LLC. The large batch the company made on December 22nd, 2023, may be contaminated with E. coli, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDS) and Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
These affected products have the establishment number “EST. 5712” on the packaging, and consumers can use it to identify the defective products. They were also shipped to distributors in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Michigan to sell to restaurants and similar institutions in the areas.
Therefore, regular customers also have access to these products, so everyone needs to be on the lookout. As of today, no reported cases of illness are associated with the meat.
However, these products are still in stores where people can get them. Therefore, the agencies advise buyers to either dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase.

- 28-lb. box package containing “Ground Beef Patties” with product code 72287, Run No. 3356GRDB, date code 231222, Use By 01/15/2024, and time stamps between 12:44:00PM to 12:54:32PM.

In case of consumption, signs of E. Coli poisoning include dehydration, bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever. In some rare cases, older adults and little children below five years may develop hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). For this syndrome, symptoms include easy bruising, pallor, and decreased urine output.

In addition, signs of E. Coli poisoning usually appear two to eight days after exposure and last for about a week. Therefore, if anyone experiences any of these symptoms, they should seek medical help immediately.
