The former White House Advisor, Dr. Fauci, is retracing his steps regarding occurrences and policy formulations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2020, the World Health Organization declared that the COVID-19 outbreak is a global pandemic. Dr. Fauci was one of the top voices who dispelled the rumor that COVID is a product of bio-engineering research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
However, there is a change to Fauci’s story as he testified on the second day of his grilling before the US Congress. In his Congress statement, Fauci admitted that the COVID-19 virus became a menace after leakage from a lab in Wuhan. So, what the Trump administration called a conspiracy theory some years ago turns out to be factual.
Fauci’s statement is significant and has set news outlets abuzz. In 2020, Fauci, as a Trump advisor, was so passionate about squashing the lab leak theory that he co-authored a paper to dispel it. The paper in question threw the then conspiracy theory out the window. Instead, Dr Fauci and his co-authors affirmed that the coronavirus must have evolved naturally.

Likewise, during the second session of questioning before Congress, Fauci made a U-turn on many policies that the then-president made as part of the pandemic response. Dr Fauci admitted that there were flaws in many of the policies and regulations.
For example, the 83-year-old Fauci mentioned that no scientific data backed the six-feet social distancing rule. He told the committee that the rule just came off the top of his ad. Largely, it was just a precautionary method of slowing down the spread of the virus.
Also, Fauci admitted to Congress that the vaccine mandates probably made many Americans refrain from taking the shots. In hindsight, he feels imposing the vaccines only made Americans distrust the government. We all remember how many refused to take the vaccine solely due to the insistence of health officials. Americans remained true to affirming their democracy and chose to hazard their health rather than have a government force a policy down their throats.

In another policy gaff, Fauci rubber-stamped former President Trump’s travel ban on China in 2020. However, the epidemiologist said during the Congress hearing that he never supported the ban. In fact, he claims to have publicly spoken against it at the time.
Like Fauci, President Joe Biden also criticized the Trump administration policy that banned travelers from China. Biden called the restrictions “hysteria, xenophobia, and fear-mongering.”
The public still awaits the full transcript of Dr Fauci’s two-day Testimony before Congress. However, lawyers will have to vet the content before making the testimony public. It is a foolproof mechanism to prevent the publication of any ‘classified’ information from the testimony.

Brad Wenstrup, a Republican from Ohio, said, “Dr Fauci’s transcribed interview revealed systemic failures in our public health system and shed light on serious procedural concerns with our public health authority.”
