The Met Gala Fandom was quite in a frenzy on social media after fans found out some fashion headliners were absent at one of the most significant events of the year.
The Met Gala came with all the fuss, glitz, and glamor as it had done in times past. However, it also came with some drama from the fanbase, which essentially had to do with some celebrity absence.
Absentee celebs like Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Blake Lively, and Zendaya trended for the whole day on social media as the fandom was somewhat disappointed. However, some of the stars had their reasons.
Met Gala 2021 And The Absentee Stars
While the Met Gala regulars and newer stars made their way to the prestigious floor of the fashion show, they all displayed the creative work they bodied. However, some public figures did not make appearances.
Stars like Beyoncé , Zendaya, Blake Lively, Halsey, and Lady Gaga, among others, were nowhere to be found. Beyoncé was last spotted at Cannes, enjoying a vacation with her longtime spouse, Jay-Z.
There seemed to be no forewarning from Beyoncé that she would be absent, and her social media page did not bear any signs. Zendaya, on the other hand, gave a pre-address concerning the Met Gala.
In weeks leading up to the fancy charity event, “The Greatest Showman” actress shared in an interview that fans would not see her at the event. Zendaya explained that it was due to her work on the set of Euphoria.
Fans’ Reactions
Fans could not help but notice that something was amiss. In no time, they figured out what was missing, and social media erupted. Many could not get over the situation as they mainly anticipated the arrival of those who made headlines at the 2019 Met Gala.
One person shared that the Met ball was “not complete without Blake Lively,” while another person called out the absence of Lively; another person shared a meme showing their angst.
The fans directed their grievance towards Beyoncé, noting that she was in New York every other time but the Met Gala time. It was also evident that Zendaya’s address did not work.
Many were in shock over not seeing her display her mind-blowing sense of style on the red carpet. One person shared four looks from her past appearances in honor of this year’s absence.
Another fan exclaimed as they shared a rhetorical question about the no-show. Someone else listed a few stars like Doja Cat, Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa, and Taylor Swift, who also did not show up.
A nostalgic fan mentioned Lady Gaga and Katy Perry’s past Met Gala serves as they shared two images from some of the stars’ iconic displays. The person noted that their entrances could not be contended.
Some Stars Gave Reasons
Halsey was called out on social media, and in response, the new mom stated postpartum duties as their reason. Regardless, many critics still felt it was not reason enough. Halsey flipped, noting that her duties as a new mom were more than what the critics made it seem.
Nicki Minaj cited a few reasons noting that she did not have a nanny for her toddler. The rap icon added that she did not feel comfortable about taking the vaccine yet, until she does her research.
Moments before the Met Gala kicked off, Kylie Jenner took to her social media page, feeling nostalgic. The expecting mom posted looks from her older Met Gala experiences while letting fans know she would “sadly” not be there.
However, Kylie’s sisters, Kendall Jenner and Kim Kardashian, and their mom, Kris Jenner, graced the event. Andy Cohen gave heads up that Sarah Jessica Parker would be around because she was filming “Sex and the City.”
