Ryan Reynolds is one of the most famous and successful actors in Hollywood. The Canadian-born actor has been a mainstay in the movie industry ever since he made his debut as a 13-year-old.

The youngster got his start in the industry after attending an open casting call which led to a role in Nickelodeon’s teen soap opera “Hillside.” The show, filmed in the United States, ran from 1991 to 1993.

Afterward, he returned to Vancouver and started appearing in various Tv movies, including a recurring role in “The Odyssey.” Reynolds starred in the series from 1993 to 1994, the same year he graduated from Kitsilano Secondary School.

After graduation, Reynolds started his improv group called ‘Yellow Snow.” he also continued to appear in series like “Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years” and “The Outer Limits” in 1995.

A year later, he starred in “The X-Files” while also simultaneously working as a grocery store clerk during the night. Eventually, Reynolds dropped out of Kwantlen Polytechnic University after just a few months to focus on his movie career.

Hollywood Success

At 19, Reynolds moved to Los Angeles with a friend and started getting acting gigs before long. After turning down a teenager role in the series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” he got cast in the Abc sitcom “Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place.”

The series ran from 1998 till 2001, and it helped Reynolds get a foothold in Hollywood and develop his skills in mimicry and imbecilic bumbling. The actor showcased these skills in his next movie project, “National Lampoon’s Van Wilder,” in 2002.

Afterward, he starred in the heist movie “Foolproof” in 2003 and then voiced Leslie Nielsen’s sidekick in the animated series “Zeroman.”

Reynolds subsequently started getting cast in big-budget Hollywood projects like “The In-Laws”  before starring with Wesley Snipes in “Blade: Trinity.”

He has since cemented his status as a big star in Hollywood with appearances in top movies like “The Proposal,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” “Deadpool,” and “Green Lantern,” where he met his wife, Blake Lively.

Ryan Reynolds’ Movies on Netflix

Netflix debuted as a streaming platform, but the company has since moved into producing its original movies. One of the actors who has brought more eyes to Netflix is Reynolds. The company has collaborated with the actor multiple times to make movies.

His films outside of the company are also well documented and very popular on the platform. Currently, there are 35 movies featuring Reynolds available for streaming on Netflix.

These include the 1996 movies “Sabrina, The Teenage Witch” and “The Alarmist,” made in 1997. There is also “Dick” released in 1999, “Big Monster On Campus” made in 2000, and “Buying The Cow” in 2002.

Reynold’s Netflix catalog also contains “Van Wilder: Party Liaison,” made in 2002, and “Foolproof” in 2003. Also, “Blade: Trinity” in 2004, “Just Friends,” “Waiting..,” “School Of Life,” and “The Amityville Horror” in 2005.

There’s also “Smokin’ Aces” in 2006, “The Nine” made in 2007, “Chaos Theory,” “Fireflies In The Garden,” and “Definitely, Maybe” in 2008. “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” “The Proposal,” and “Paper Man” were all released in 2009.

The list contains the 2010 movies “Secret Origin; The Story of DC Comics” and “Buried.” There is also “The Change-Up,” “Green Lantern,” and “The Whale,” all released in 2011.

The catalog also features “Safe House,” made in 2012, and “The Croods,” “R.I.P.D,” and “Turbo,” released in 2013. “The Captive” and “The Voices” were also released in 2014. “Self/Less,” “Woman In Gold,” and “Mississippi Grind” were released in 2015.

“The Hitman’s Bodyguard” in 2017, “Deadpool 2” in 2018, and “Pokémon Detective Pikachu” in 2019. Also, “The Croods: A New Age” in 2020, “Red Notice” in 2021, and “The Adam Project” in 2022.

Reynolds Creates Netflix Record

In 2022 Ryan Reynolds created a record on Netflix when his movie “The Adam Project,” produced by the company, ranked as the 7th movie on Netflix’s top 10 most popular English-language films.

The actor became the only actor with three films on the top 10 Netflix charts with that accomplishment. “The Adam Project” joined “Red Notice” and “6 Underground,” which were number one and number nine, respectively. Reynolds moved ahead of actress Sandra Bullock who has two movies, “Bird Box” and “The Unforgivable,” on the roster.

Although Reynolds broke Netflix’s record, his movies surprisingly have shallow critical scores on review platforms. For example, both “6 Underground” and “Red Notice” have a 36% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Despite the star-studded casts, reviewers criticized the movies for their plot holes and confusing elements. The only film highly praised is “Red Notice,” with a 69% score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, Reynolds’s funny and fast-talking persona is why these movies draw multiple audiences.

Be it an action or comedy movie, Reynolds always delivers with his unmatchable charm, a bankable bet for the actor and Netflix.

Whether reviewers praise them or not, the actor’s movies are top-rated on Netflix, and the company continues to invest in its original content.
