Donald Trump Wins the 2024 US Presidential Election

In a dramatic political comeback that shocked America and the world, Donald Trump has been elected as the 47th president of the United States.

Following Trump’s win in the 2024 presidential election, he became the first convicted felon to be elected president of the United States. Trump is also the oldest person to be elected president at the age of 78, surpassing President Joe Biden’s record of 77 years.

On November 5, 2024, Trump recorded victory over Harris, who was aiming to become the first South Asian American, Black woman, and woman president in U.S. history. Trump’s victory came after he unexpectedly won North Carolina, the first battleground state to be called, after the ballots were tabulated. 

He went on to win Georgia and Pennsylvania, which was announced as early as 1.20 am ET on Wednesday, November 5, 2024. When Fox News declared Pennsylvania for the Republican nominee, a thunderous cheer erupted at Trump’s Palm Beach watch party.

In reaction to Trump’s victory, a Trump supporter wearing a black hat yelled, “Fuck Joe Biden! Fuck her!”

How Did Donald Trump React to Winning the 2024 Presidential Election?

As more election reports came in, it became increasingly evident that Trump would return to the White House. According to surveys, Trump’s lead in the race kept growing as he exceeded the number of needed Electoral College votes.

Trump won 279 electoral college votes, including victories in battleground states North Carolina, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. While Kamala Harris won California and New York, Trump won Florida and Texas, each of which has a large number of electoral votes.

Following his victory on November 5, 2024, Trump, in the company of his family and running mate, Sen. JD Vance, announced his victory to a crowd of supporters. Speaking to applauding fans at Florida’s Palm Beach County Convention Center, Trump said, “America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate.”

“I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president.” He added, “And every citizen, I will fight for you, for your family, and for your future. Every single day, I will be fighting for you with every breath in my body.”

President Joe Biden Reacts to Donald Trump’s Win

Following Trump’s election victory on Thursday, November 7, 2024, President Biden asked Americans to “bring down the temperature.” Biden attempted to reassure his fellow Democrats, who expressed their concern about Trump’s remarkable return.

Speaking to members of his staff at the White House Rose Garden following Harris’ defeat, Biden said, “Setbacks are unavoidable. Giving up is unforgivable. A defeat does not mean we are defeated.”

He continued, “I know for some people, it’s a time for victory; to state the obvious, for others, it’s a time of loss. We accept the choice the country made.” Speaking on the November 5, 2024, election, Biden stated that the election demonstrated the integrity of America’s political system.

Subsequently, Biden promised an orderly transition of power, an implied rebuke to Trump, who attempted to overturn his 2020 defeat to Biden. He said, “I also hope we can lay to rest the question about the integrity of the American electoral system. It is honest, it is fair, and it is transparent. And it can be trusted, win or lose.”

Biden requested a meet-in with Trump at the White House, a courtesy Trump did not provide to Biden in 2020. According to Trump’s campaign, the president-elect will be accepting the invitation. Over the next couple of weeks, Trump is expected to start appointing individuals to serve under his administration.

Foreign Government Reacts to Donald Trump Win

Following his win in the 2024 presidential election, leaders worldwide have started reacting to the reality of Donald Trump’s second term. Among the first set of congratulations was Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who congratulated Trump on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. 

Tagging Trump’s victory as history’s greatest comeback, Netanyahu said, “Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America.”

He added, “This is a huge victory!” On Wednesday, November 6, 2024,  Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Trump. Upon congratulating Trump, Zelensky expressed his excitement for a strong USA under Trump’s leadership.

Similarly, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Trump on his victory on Thursday, November 7, 2024. Speaking at an international event in Sochi, Putin commended Trump for his courage during the July 2024 assassination attempt. 

Subsequently, China’s President Xi Jinping congratulated Trump on his win, urging both countries to find the proper way to get along. However, Jinping reiterated his earlier claims that the world community expects the two superpowers to respect each other while peacefully coexisting.
