US Presidential Election 2024: Who Will Occupy the Oval Office?

However, as the U.S. 2024 presidential election is ongoing, we wonder who will occupy the Oval Office come January 2025. The two main political parties selected their nominees through a succession of primaries and caucuses. 

While former President Donald Trump is the Republican candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democratic nominee. Harris was nominated on Sunday, July 21, 2024, after President Joe Biden announced that he would not seek reelection.

According to CNN predictions, Trump is expected to defeat Harris as the Republican candidate plans to return to the Oval Office. As counting continues in certain crucial states, Trump’s victory in battleground Wisconsin has placed the Republican candidate ahead by 276 electoral votes.

Who Is Winning the US Presidential Election According to Polls?

According to CBS News, Trump is expected to become the 47th president of the United States over Democrat candidate Kamala Harris. Similarly, according to a CBS News prediction, Trump is expected to win Wisconsin as new polls put him over the finish line.

The prediction comes after earlier polls predicted that Trump would win the battleground states of North Carolina, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. CBS News poll prediction also projects that Trump will secure about 291 electoral college votes.

Based on this prediction, Trump is projected to surpass the required victory threshold of 270 votes by over 21 votes. Based on the projection, if Trump wins the 2024 presidential election, he will become the 47th president to assume office. 

After skipping her scheduled speech at Howard University on November 4, 2024, Harris will talk to supporters on the afternoon of November 5, 2024. Additionally, CBS News projected Republicans would win several important Senate contests as the GOP expects to take control of the upper house.

However, as the electoral process remains ongoing, control of the White House is still up in the air.

What Are the Latest Predictions for the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election?

As new electoral reports come in, it has become incredibly clear that Trump will be returning to the White House. According to the polls, the election continues to move in Trump’s favor as he surpassed the number of Electoral College votes required.

Accumulating 279 electoral college votes, Trump recorded victories in the battleground states of North Carolina, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. While Kamala Harris won in California and New York, Trump won the electoral vote-heavy states of Florida and Texas.

Following her defeat in the 2024 presidential election, a top aide of Harris confirmed that she contacted Trump to congratulate him. Following his victory on November 5, 2024, Trump, alongside his family and running partner, Sen. JD Vance, announced his victory in a morning rally to supporters. 

Speaking to cheering fans at Florida’s Palm Beach County Convention Center, Trump said, “America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate. I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president.”

He added, “And every citizen, I will fight for you, for your family, and for your future. Every single day, I will be fighting for you with every breath in my body.”

Who Won the US 2024 Presidential Election?

On Wednesday, November 5, 2024, Donald Trump was elected as the 47th president of the United States. With his victory in the 2024 election, Trump makes an incredible return to the Oval Office following several controversies.

Trump’s list of obstacles ranges from inciting an uprising at the U.S. Capitol in January 2021 to his felony convictions to surviving two assassination attempts. With some states still to be tabulated, Trump, 78, has 279 electoral votes to Harris’ 223 as of 5:45 a.m. ET on November 5, 2024.

While Harris did not do as well as Biden did in 2020, Trump exceeded his 2020 performance in state after state. Trump was ahead of Harris in the popular vote by almost 5 million votes.
