Another round of delay is impending in the ongoing case between Disney and Gov. Ron DeSantis’s appointees to the company’s governing district. According to Walt Disney World, the governor’s administration and the governing district of the district estate are trying to draw out the lawsuit for as long as possible. Disney suggests that Gov. DeSantis’s office intentionally withheld documents that would help prosecute the case.
Disney’s request for the contentious documents would have never come up. However, during one of the hearings, an employee of the governing district made an indicting claim. During a deposition, the employee claimed that almost 50 of the district’s 370 staff have resigned since the appointment of the new board members.
Why the mass resignations? The reality is that many have cried foul since Gov. DeSantis imposed new board members on the governing board. So, Disney World can afford to be worried about the motives behind the new appointments.
Besides, the governing district is a major piece in the operational success of Disney World, Florida. In reality, Disney World takes up a sizable chunk of the 40 square miles controlled by the governing district. In fact, social amenities like fire services, town planning, and mosquito extermination are controlled by the district.

Up until last year, the central Florida Disney World ran seamlessly under the oversight of the governing district. Unfortunately for Disney, the entertainment chain decided to publicly oppose Gov. DeSantis’s “don’t say gay” law. In response, Florida lawmakers, in allegiance to their GOP governor, seized control of the governing district.
So, since then, Gov. DeSantis and Disney have been to state and federal courts in a bid to decide who controls the district board. However, Gov. DeSantis does not seem to be backing down soon. The controversial “Don’t say gay” law is one of the signature ideologies behind the governor’s goal to grab the 2024 GOP presidential ticket.

The “Don’t say gay” law is out to stifle the teaching of gender identity and sexual orientation in classrooms, particularly in lower grades. According to Eric O’Donnell, a governing district administrator, the DeSantis-employed board is politically inspired. During a deposition, he said, “There is a very, very, very politically motivated board, and I know we try not to acknowledge that, but that is a huge reason why a lot of people are leaving.”
Going by some of the depositions at the state court hearing, Disney insists that the governor’s office has some pending documents to provide. However, the attorney representing the governor’s office begs to disagree. Attorney Nick Meros insists that Disney is simply at a game of unnecessarily stretching out the litigation.
Gov. DeSantis seems strategic with his new appointees to the governing district board. Among them is Bridget Ziegler, a conservative activist who has equally been in the news lately. Ziegler and her husband admitted they were involved in a three-way sexual relationship, despite heavily criticizing the LGBTQ+ community.
Unlike Mrs Ziegler, whose popularity has gone through the roof since the scandal, the husband recently lost his office as the GOP chairman of Florida.
