Her parents have mixed ethnic backgrounds; her father is African-American, while her mother has German and Scottish ancestry.
Claire was raised in Oakland, where she grew up with five siblings. She is the last of all six children and has an older brother named Mark and a sister named Hilary. She also attended Oakland High School and later enrolled at Santa Clara University.
