Christopher Wilding is most famous for being the child of not one but two Hollywood stars. His parents are the iconic Elizabeth Taylor and her former husband, actor Michael Wilding.
Taylor was a talented actress whose career kicked off as a child, while Michael was a stage, television, and film actor, a famous star among English movie lovers in the 1940s. Both enjoyed success in the entertainment industry, but their marriage did not last long.
Their son, Christopher Wilding, has been working hard to make a name for himself outside the looming shadow cast by their accomplishments. Keep reading to learn how he fares.
Christopher Wilding Biography
Elizabeth Taylor’s son, Christopher Wilding, was born on February 27, 1955, the same day his mother was born. He was delivered via cesarean section at Santa Monica Hospital and grew up in a great, pet-filled home.
Christopher was lucky enough to spend time with Elizabeth long before she got hooked on drugs and alcohol. He was a boy of five when she bagged her first Oscar award and once recalled how he and his siblings were banned from messing around with it and the subsequent ones she won.
He was also with her when she started her downward spiral. Christopher revealed in the biography “Elizabeth Taylor: The Grit & Glamour of an Icon” by Kate Andersen Brower that his mom once summoned him to help her inject more opioids into her vein when her hands were too shaky to do it.
He said: “She sounded wobbly … but it wasn’t until I saw her that I realized she was already pretty f–ked up on something. She was seated at the edge of the bed in her underwear and had a syringe of Demerol in her right hand.”
According to Christopher, the request came while he stayed with Taylor while she married Virginia Senator John Warner between 1976 and 1982.
When Did Christopher Wilding’s Parents Get Married?
His parents are Michael Wilding and Elizabeth Taylor. Michael was the second man she married, and at their wedding, he was 20 years her senior.
The age difference made it difficult for them to find things they had in common, eventually leading Taylor to have an affair with Frank Sinatra, which got her pregnant.
Taylor would have loved to marry ol’ blue eyes. However, his manager rejected the idea and drove her to Mexico for an abortion. Christopher was just a child when his parents’ marriage ended in 1957, and more than 20 years later, his father passed away.
Christopher Wilding Career
Given how he grew up surrounded by parents passionate about acting, it is unsurprising that Christopher became an actor like them. He started working at a young age, just like his mother did.
His first role saw him star in “The Taming of The Shrew” at 11. It made such an impression that he dedicated his life to acting. Some of the works he is known for include “The Shadow” (1994), “Overboard” (1987), and “Tombstone” (1993).
Christopher also worked as a film editor and has done some film editing on several projects. He is retired now without an Oscar of his own. However, he still holds and cherishes one of the three Oscar awards his mother won.
The iconic actress passed away in 2011, but Christopher still admires her work as an actress. To keep her memory alive, he displays her first Oscar in the book-lined living room of the mid-century modern house he shares with his wife, Margie, in Calabasas, California.
He says, “I’m thrilled to have the Oscar.”
