Chiefs’ Wide Receiver Admits He “Blacked Out” During Touchdown to Win Super Bowl LVIII

Of all the unforgettable moments in the career of Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman, one stands out yet again. His Super Bowl-winning touchdown came in the nick of time and sent the crowd of spectators into wild jubilation.

As iconic and special as the moment was, there was something about it that the crowd didn’t know about. Recently, Hardman spilled the beans to the press. He blacked out after the touchdown, he said.

“I ain’t gonna lie man, I caught that pass and I blacked out,” he revealed on a CBS postgame show. The show occurred on Sunday night after the 25-22 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. He had performed an iconic feat without knowing it.

“I didn’t know what was going on until I saw Pat running to me, and I was like, ‘Oh, we just won? Let’s celebrate!’” he continued. Seconds later, Hardman was demonstrating his excitement before the crowd at the packed Allegiant Stadium.

The Chiefs were pretty outplayed at the beginning of the game. Not only were they overwhelmed in offense, but they also botched chances three times in the first two-quarters of the game.

They further fumbled twice more at later stages. They were behind 10 points in the second quarter before they began a refreshing resurgence in form.

As the game approached the final stages, it wasn’t looking like the Chiefs would clinch the second Super Bowl in a row. But dreams came through after Hardman caught a pass from his quarterback teammate, Patrick Mahomes. He then performed the walk-off touchdown that sealed the game.

Mahomes played a crucial role in the Chief’s win and secured his third Super Bowl MVP award. One of Mahomes’ biggest highlights was his leading role in a scramble that set the Chiefs up in the red zone.

Besides Hardman’s winning touchdown, a crucial first-half 52-yard catch brought the Chiefs into the red zone for the first time in the game.

The win further cemented the Chief’s reputation as one of the NFL top dogs in the past decade. They became the fourth franchise to clinch three Super Bowls in five years. They also made history as the first to win back-to-back championships in the past two decades.

So far, the Chiefs have won four Super Bowls. They now tie in fifth place with the New York Giants and the Green Bay Packers amongst the teams to have won the coveted prize the most.

It was a perfect way for Hardman to seal a reunion with the Chiefs, with whom he played his first four professional seasons. He then pitched his tent with the New York Jets, who traded him back to the Chiefs after just five games in exchange for a draft pick.

Hardman made the news earlier during the offseason while the Jets appeared on HBO’s “Hard Knocks.” During the program, he declared he would play at the Super Bowl and against the 49ers. He probably forgot to add that he would be performing the act that would seal the title.
