Broadway actors John Cardoza, currently appearing in The Notebook, and Michael Stuhlbarg, who begins previews tonight in Patriots, have become the latest victims of what appears to be a high-profile crime spree in New York.
Neither actor was seriously injured in the various incidents on Easter Sunday. Cardoza, who plays “Younger Noah” in the musical based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, wrote in an Instagram Story post yesterday that he was robbed at gunpoint at a Dunkin’ Donuts in the Hamilton Heights area of Upper Manhattan.
“At first, he only asked for a dollar,” Cardoza wrote. “I offered to buy him lunch because I didn’t have any cash on me, and from there, things escalated very quickly.
”In the second message, the actor wrote, “I’m doing great. I think I should clarify that the reason I feel the need to share is that after the incident, this man tried to use my credit card multiple times.

These efforts take place at the 145th Street grocery stores, convenience stores, and pharmacies we all use every day.
In a later message, Cardoza thanked those who sent him their good wishes and concerns. “I live in New York, and unfortunately, these things happen more often than you think, and I didn’t expect it to go beyond my personal history here.

In another incident, Stuhlbarg was hit with rocks during a random attack near Central Park on the Upper East Side. Stuhlbarg chased the alleged attacker, 27-year-old Xavier Israel, for several blocks until police arrested the man.

He was charged with assault. Stuhlbarg, who had a scratch on the back of his head, refused medical assistance. Neither Cardoza nor Stuhlbarg should miss out on their shows.
Despite repeated assurances from New York City police officials that major crimes are decreasing, a series of high-profile incidents, including a subway stampede and an attack on two officers in Times Square in January, made headlines and sparked growing concerns about crime in the city.
