In the West Texas and New Mexico area, Border Patrol agents apprehended 11 people this week who were attempting to enter the U.S. illegally. These people had violent criminal records or convictions. Among them were serious criminals like sex offenders, child predators, and drug dealers. Other offenses included illegal possession of firearms, assault, domestic violence, or burglary.
A few of them were connected to gangs or Mexican drug cartels. On Tuesday, U.S. Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens shared about the rest on X. “Their criminal histories include: child molestation, aggravated assault, rape, murder, [and the] manufacture/trafficking of firearms,” Owens wrote.
His post included mugshots of four of the 11 detainees. However, the current status of these detainees is unclear. Fox News reached out to Border Patrol for additional information but did not immediately receive a response.
Last week, Owens disclosed that border agents had apprehended nearly 180 illegal immigrants with ties to gangs since the beginning of the year. According to Owens, these gangs, such as Paisas and MS-13, were implicated in serious crimes like murder, extortion, drug trafficking, weapons, and human trafficking, as well as prostitution.

Owens also stated that in the fiscal year 2024, Border Patrol arrested over 6,400 people with prior criminal convictions. This statistic coincides with the apprehension of more than 21,000 Chinese citizens in the Border Patrol’s San Diego Sector alone during the 2024 fiscal year.
“El Paso Sector agents work tirelessly to protect our border communities. Many times, our agents encounter migrants entering illegally into the United States who were previously removed with previous criminal convictions,” said El Paso Sector Chief Patrol Agent Anthony Scott Good.

“Most of the time these individuals know, if arrested by Border Patrol, they will face incarceration once again. Therefore, they attempt to evade arrest. We continue to work with the U.S. Attorney’s Office to hold these criminals accountable.”
This week, an illegal Salvadorian immigrant was arrested in connection with the killing of a toddler in Langley Park, Maryland. The man, Nilson Granados-Trejo, was apprehended on charges of first- and second-degree murder, along with related counts for killing 2-year-old Jeremy Poou-Caceres.

The toddler was caught in the crossfire outside an apartment complex in Langley Park, Md. During the incident, Jeremy’s 17-year-old mother was also injured by the gunfire. Also, Angel Matias Castellanos-Orellana, 19, who had been evading authorities after raping a 14-year-old girl at knifepoint, was arrested on Sunday.
He had robbed and stabbed a man at knifepoint as he exited his vehicle. Jose Antonio Ibarra is another example. The 26-year-old Venezuelan national was charged in the murder of nursing student Laken Riley on the University of Georgia campus. He crossed illegally into El Paso, Texas, in September 2022 and was subsequently released into the U.S. on parole.
According to a Fox News analysis, under President Biden’s administration, nearly 7.3 million migrants have illegally crossed the southwest border. This number has surpassed the population of 36 individual states. If these migrants were gathered, they would form the second-largest city in America after New York.
