On Saturday, May 25, 2024, the tragic passing of Grayson Murray was announced. His parents, in the announcement, confirmed that he died by suicide. Authorities have also released an official statement, revealing Murray’s cause of death.
According to reports, at around 10 am on Saturday, May 25, 2024, officials were called to a Palm Beach Garden townhouse. A neighbor alerted them after the house’s carbon monoxide alarm went off. Upon getting to the building, they found the apartment filled with fumes and Murray dead.
Further investigation showed that Murray died of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning which came from the garage, where his Land Rover had been left running. At the time of his death, he was cohabiting with his fiancée, Christina Ritchie. Authorities have now revealed the cause of death to be carbon monoxide poisoning.
However, just a day before his death, he announced his withdrawal from the Charles Schwab Challenge. According to his announcement, he withdrew because he was not in the best shape mentally and physically for the tournament.

Grayson Murray was a professional golfer whose career spanned 8 years. He started his career in his native home of North Carolina, where he competed at the Rex Hospital Open 2016, where he finished eighth. Despite not originally qualifying for the tournament, his performance at the event secured him full playing time for the remainder of the season.
Additionally, he also finished in the top 18 on the regular-season money list, earning a spot on the PGA Tour for 2017, and added four more top 10s. He achieved his first victory on the PGA Tour on July 23, 2017, when he won the Barbasol Championship.
In the 2023 season, Murray claimed two victories on the Korn Ferry Tour: the Simmons Bank Open and the AdventHealth Championship. He secured his second victory on the PGA Tour on January 14, 2024, when he prevailed in a playoff at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
Murray’s short but remarkable golf career has highlighted his perseverance and dedication. During his time as a professional, Murray made $3,352,476 in career earnings. He averaged $558,746 in prizes annually, a testament to his brilliance and consistency.

The two-time PGA Tour winner has always been open and transparent about his battles with addiction and mental health issues. In January 2024, after his victory at the Sony Open, he highlighted that he had been eight months sober.
The PGA Tour Commissioner, Jay Monahan, said in an interview how devastated the organization was about his passing. Monaghan revealed that he couldn’t describe the pain, as Murray’s death was similar to the death of a family member. He added that he originally wanted to suspend the tournament upon Murray’s passing.
Monahan said he had reached out to Murray’s parents to offer his condolences and sympathy. It was during the conversation that they insisted on the PGA Tour continuing, as Murray would want that.

Although he would have preferred to suspend the event, he decided to respect their wishes. At the locations of this week’s PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour tournaments, grief counselors were on hand.
The golf world and Grayson Murray’s family are in shock over his passing and are trying to come to terms with losing a great player and cherished person.
