Home Depot has been serving millions for decades, but they’ve been losing customers recently. There are many reasons people hate Home Depot. However, a prevalent one these days concerns Bernie Marcus, a republican mega-donor who originally co-founded it.
On Tuesday, he reiterated his loyalty to Donald Trump, saying he would probably still fund his 2024 presidential bid if the former president was convicted of a crime. He also admitted that despite his desire to support Trump, who is currently fighting many lawsuits, he does not plan to be one of his biggest financial supporters.
Marcus, a co-founder of home improvement retailer The Home Depot, announced he is backing Trump, the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican nomination contest. The contest will kick off on January 15 in Iowa.

As things stand, Trump faces four criminal cases, including state and federal charges. They are a result of his attempts to overturn the outcome of the 2020 election. In all four instances, Trump, 77, denies wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty.
All the legal turmoil has people wondering what will happen to Trump’s campaign in case of a conviction or jail term. Bernie Marcus, responding to a question in an interview asking if he would still stay loyal to Trump if he were convicted, said. “I think so. Because I think it’s all trumped up.”
Marcus, 94, who was solidly behind Trump’s White House runs in 2016 and 2020, said they sat for a discussion recently. He said: “I never discussed his legal fees or problems.” He also added that Trump was “very happy” about his support.

Reports claim Marcus and his wife, Billi Wilma Marcus, were the seventh-largest individual Republican donors in the 2020 election cycle. The total of their donations was almost $25 million in support of Republican campaigns.
OpenSecrets, a nonprofit group that follows the money in politics, made the claim. The $25 million is child’s play when you’re Marcus, estimated to be worth around $8.8 billion.
Marcus did not specify how much he and his wife plan to donate this time. However, there is no doubt they will support Trump’s bid in the general election against Biden in November 2024. Of course, he has the republican end up as the nominee. But he hinted at the possibility of the donation not being as massive as the one in the past.

He said: “Of course, I’m going to support him to some extent, but I’m not one of his big givers, that’s for sure.”
The 94-year-old said he is also keeping an eye on other likely candidates. Some include Republican presidential candidates Nikki Haley, a former U.N. ambassador and South Carolina Governor, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. However, they do not think they can beat Trump in the nominating contest.
Marcus seems to believe Trump is a “fixer.” He believes his re-election will be beneficial to the U.S. economy and more proactive about Middle East foreign policy. Democratic consumers are not happy about the news, and more people are announcing plans to boycott Home Depot as a result.
