Ann Margret and Elvis Presley dated for one year before rumors of their engagement ended their brief affair. Inside their love story.
Born on April 28, 1941, in Valsjobyn, Sweden, Ann Margret is regarded as one of the most talented actresses of all time.
She has enjoyed a stellar career in Hollywood that began over six decades ago. Her perfect performances on-screen have landed her many awards and honors like five Golden Globe awards and an Emmy Award.
Time and again, Margret has been the center of attraction due to her talent. However, the actress’s romantic involvements have also placed her in the public eye quite a few times.
One of such times was when she dated American Actor and Singer Elvis Presley. Here’s everything to know about their relationship.
MARGRET AND PRESLEY’S WHIRLWIND ROMANCE
Margret and Presley first met in July 1963 while filming “Viva Las Vegas.” The Director, George Sydney, introduced the pair, dressed in formal outfits.
At the time, the actress was 22 while Presley was 27. They worked hard to give outstanding performances in the movie that left many glued to their screens.
However, their chemistry went beyond starring together in the movie. In a short time, reports of a relationship between the duo soon made the headlines, despite Presley being in a relationship with his girlfriend, Priscilla Ann Beaulieu.
The actor was known for his flirtatious ways with his female co-stars, but the way he felt about Margret was quite different.
WHAT DID MARGRET THINK OF THE AFFAIR?
Margret once explained how the connection between her and Presley was unique from the beginning. She said both she and the actor felt a current pass through them at their first meeting.
Margret considered Presley her soulmate as they connected more over their love for music. The duo spent quality time together and enjoyed the short romance they shared. They rode on motorbikes together and consoled each other when John F. Kennedy died.
Presley often made Margret laugh because he had a good sense of humor. The actress told PageSix that her man would tease her, and she would tease him back. Overall, it was like a match made in heaven.
DETAILS OF THEIR BREAKUP
While Presley was head over heels in love with Margret, he convinced Beaulieu their relationship was simply platonic.
However, rumors about an engagement began making the news after the actress was misquoted during an interview.
Although Margret cleared the air that they were false, it was too late as the rumor had gotten to Beaulieu. Presley was forced to end his relationship with Margret, and shortly after, he and his girlfriend got engaged. They tied the knot on May 1, 1967, and one week later, Margret got married to Roger Smith.
PRESLEY PROFESSES HIS LOVE
Presley’s marital status did not quench his love for his ex-girlfriend. He sent her flowers whenever she had an opening night in Las Vegas.
One time, Presley visited Margret backstage at her show in Riviera Hotel and professed his love for the actress.
According to Margret, he entered the room, shut the door, got down on one knee, and poured out his heart. The actress felt the spark, but there was only little she could do.
Their relationship remained platonic until Presley passed away on August 16, 1977.
