According to a recent poll, more people in two critical swing states in the U.S. are leaning towards voting for Donald Trump compared to his numbers in 2016. These two states are Michigan and Pennsylvania and are famously known as swing states because they do not have a fixed opinion, and the outcome of the election in these states is widely unstable.
Therefore, presidential aspirants usually try to win over swing states as they can make or mar the outcome of the entire elections. According to a phone survey that was carried out by USA Today and Suffolk University, Joe Biden is still either the first or second choice of the vast majority and Black voters in these states.
Most of them would typically avoid Donald Trump. However, the survey also showed a surprising development. According to the new survey, there are now more Black people willing to vote for Trump than was recorded back in 2020. These numbers used to be single digits but have now jumped to double digits, which is a significant change.
This poll was conducted from June 9th to 13th and has a recorded error margin of 4.4%. This could be for a couple of reasons. Even though Trump has recently been found guilty of a felony, he also spent a good chunk of a weekend in Detroit, the largest city in Michigan, hoping to win over more Black voters.

As Detroit is predominantly Black, winning over the city could give him a good boost with the Black people from other cities. In 2020, the majority of Black voters voted for Joe Biden, leaving just 8% of voters who voted either for Trump or the Independent Party candidate.

However, the results of this new poll that was carried out with about 500 Black voters showed an improvement for Trump. Now, about 15 percent of the voters of the Black community have shown that they would vote for Trump. In Pennsylvania, 11 percent of their black voters are also pledging their support for the Republican candidate.

For those who do not want to vote for either Biden or Trump, they are more likely to vote for other third-party candidates such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West. According to the director of Suffolk’s Political Research Center, Biden has overwhelming support from the Black community in these states and would most likely see a win in both Michigan and Pennsylvania.
However, the increase in the percentage of voters that would support Trump is quite beneficial to the Republican candidate as most elections are won or lost by very small margins. Therefore, even a 5 percent increase is good enough when it comes to total numbers.
