After Rebel Wilson suffered backlash for her “gay actor” comments, Rob Schneider has come to her defense. In an interview, Schneider dropped his own opinion on the controversial topic.
Wilson dismissed the idea that casting should be based on sexual orientation as total rubbish while speaking with Lauren Laverne on Desert Island Discs. Wilson told Laverne that she believes people should be able to play whatever character they like.
In 2022, Rebel Wilson announced to the world that she was a lesbian and was engaged. She and her partner, Ramona Agruma, told the public that they had a one-year-old child through surrogacy.
The 44-year-old Australian actor said she believes that in comedy, it is one’s responsibility to dangle on the edge of what is acceptable. However, sometimes an actor has to push themselves, as the job is to entertain.

Since the statement went public, there has been a lot of tension, resulting in positive and negative reactions. Some of Wilson’s supporters took to social media in her defense. One user said that they agreed because the point of acting is to portray a character who has no similarity to you.
However, one user said they didn’t agree with that notion and that watching straight actors play gay characters was weird. One of Wilson’s supporters is Rob Schneider, a popular American comedian who took to his X platform to voice his opinion.
Schneider had commended the actor, saying the reason behind acting is to play someone you have no resemblance to. The 60-year-old’s tweet has generated over 33,000 views since it was uploaded on June 5, 2024.
Schneider enjoyed long-term fame with the Deuce Bigalow series and frequent cameos in Adam Sandler films. But since 2014, his political opinions have gained greater recognition.

Schneider’s anti-vaccine stance and disdain for “wokeness” and “cancel culture” have taken some admirers away from him. The celebrity is an outspoken supporter of free speech, accusing the left of violating people’s rights and attacking policies that, in his opinion, put diversity above ability.
In 2020, Schneider made some statements during an interview on the website Fatherly. He said that he attempts to make fun of both liberals and conservatives, as both groups will always have an opinion.
Originally a Democrat, Schneider supported Republican Tim Donnelly, a former member of the Minutemen border enforcement organization, for governor in 2013.

Schneider declared, “The Democrats and my party have abandoned me,” in a video endorsement. “I decided to give up on them,” he said, voicing his displeasure with California’s regulatory practices that impact his vitamin company, Beyondhealth.com.
Since then, he has proclaimed himself to be an “independent,” endorsing fellow vaccine skeptic Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for president in 2024.
