According to her campaign team, Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert, of Colorado’s 3rd district, was hospitalized on Monday, April 1, 2024. The campaign revealed in a statement that they hospitalized her at UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland. Boebert reportedly experienced “severe swelling in her upper left leg.”
Boebert, 37, is famous for her controversial and far-right opinions and stances. In addition, she is currently running for Colorado’s fourth congressional district. According to her campaign, Lauren Boebert underwent a CT scan, and doctors found an acute blood clot. Afterward, doctors diagnosed her with May-Thurner Syndrome.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, May-Thurner syndrome is a rare condition. It disrupts blood flow by compressing a vein in the pelvis and can lead to blood clots. Also known as Cockett syndrome, symptoms can range from swelling and skin discoloration to open sores (ulcers) and throbbing pain.
Reports also say it’s more common with women and adults ages 20 to 50. After the diagnosis, the congresswoman underwent surgery to remove the clot and insert a stent on Tuesday morning. Her team says the surgery was successful.

Doctors at UCHealth also expect Boebert, who shares four teenage sons with ex-husband Jayson Boebert, to recover “fully.” Her campaign said they expect her to return with “no significant concerns for her long-term health.” They also noted that the surgery won’t affect her ability to perform her Congresswoman duties.
“I want to thank Dr. Rebecca Bade and the team at UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies,” Lauren Boebert said. “For their great care and helpful insight on my recent diagnosis.” Boebert continued, “I’m looking forward to making a full recovery and getting back to Congress to continue fighting for Colorado.”

According to the doctors, dehydration, travel, and extended periods of sitting are potential factors that cause symptoms of May-Thurner syndrome. The Cleveland Clinic says the main complication of May-Thurner syndrome is deep vein thrombosis or DVT. DVT occurs when a blood clot forms in deep leg veins.
It could be disastrous if that blood clot breaks off and reaches a person’s lungs. Also, it can cause a pulmonary embolism, which can be life-threatening. Hence, doctors recommended and scheduled surgery to remove the clot to address Boebert’s symptoms.
The congresswoman’s campaign revealed that doctors completed the surgery on the morning of April 2. “We successfully performed surgery on the Congresswoman this morning and expect her to make a full recovery,” Dr. Bade said.

Furthermore, the doctor noted the congresswoman can return to her duties after resting through a recovery period. “Patients with May-Thurner Syndrome who undergo the procedure to restore blood flow can live,” Dr. Bade said. “And work just as they have in the past after a brief recovery.”
As earlier stated, Lauren Boebert represents Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District. The controversial congresswoman has been the US representative for Colorado’s 3rd congressional district since 2021. However, she is now seeking the Congressional seat in the 4th district.
