The time is ticking for Ted Cruz, and the Republican Senator is in panic mode!
Texas Senator Cruz, who has served two terms as Texas junior senator, is facing a tough reelection challenge from Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas). Allred, a former NFL player who won Texas’ Democratic Senate primary in a landslide victory, is giving the Republican Senator a run for his money.
On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, Ted Cruz begged for donations during a Fox News interview. He also complained that Allred is outraising his 2018 challenger, former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke. Cruz claimed Democrats are “flooding millions of dollars” into the state in a bid to unseat him in November.
The Republican said his opponent, Allred, has outraised O’Rourke by a “three to one ratio.” The Democrats enjoy a thin Senate majority, with 51 senators in the House, against 49 Republicans. However, the GOP hopes to take control of the chamber in November, and Cruz’s seat is important for them to defend.

“The Democrats are coming after me; they are gonna spend more than $100 million this year,” Ted Cruz said. “George Soros is already spending millions of dollars in the state of Texas.” While speaking to Sean Hannity, Cruz noted that it’s all because of his last reelection.
“My opponent, a liberal Democrat named Colin Allred, is outraising Beto O’Rourke, my last opponent, 3 to 1,” the Senator added. “They are flooding millions of dollars into Texas, and the reason is simple,” he continued. “You remember my last reelection? It was a 3-point race. I won by 2.6 percent.”
Notably, Ted Cruz defeated O’Rourke in November 2018 with around 4,260,000 votes and 4,046,000 votes. Consequently, he secured reelection to his seat in January 2013. On the other hand, Allred, a former NFL player-turned-House Democrat, won his party’s primary for Cruz’s seat in early March.

His campaign claims he raised $4.8 million in the fourth quarter of 2023. Similarly, Fox News reported that Cruz gained $5.5 million over the same period. Cruz’s fundraising concerns may explain the Senator’s shady financial deal with iHeartMedia.
According to reports, the hosting platform of his podcast “Verdict with Ted Cruz” has been facing calls for an investigation. The radio network reportedly paid $630,850 to a Cruz-affiliated super PAC, Truth and Courage.
FEC data reviewed by The Chronicle states that the six-figure sum represents about a third of the PAC’s fundraising since 2023. As iHeartMedia employs lobbyists, it would be impermissible under Senate rules for Ted Cruz to accept gifts from them.
While addressing the allegations, a Cruz campaign spokesperson blamed Democrats for the attacks. “It is always bewildering to see the media and the Democrats coordinating attacks during an election year,” the spokesperson said.
Furthermore, the spokesperson noted that Senator Ted Cruz appears on Verdict three times weekly for free. “He does this to pull back the veil on the corrupt inner workings of Washington-none,” the spokesperson added. “How convenient that the media and the cogs in the machine of the Biden-Pelosi Democrat Party want this to stop.”
While the election panic sets in for Ted Cruz, reports say he’s trailing in the polls. A recently published Marist survey of 1,227 Texas adults found Cruz is leading Allred by 52 percent to 45 percent. He also has an eight-point lead among independents.
