As the January 6 Capitol riot investigation continues, authorities have questioned several high-profile individuals. Some include former President Donald Trump, who allegedly instigated it, and former Vice President Mike Pence. However, recently, they arrested Air Force Reserve Staff Sgt. — Kyle Douglas McMahan of Watauga, Texas.

The authorities arrested him on felony charges for his alleged participation in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. According to the authorities, McMahan pushed and grabbed police officers and called one officer a “traitor.” Consequently, they took 41-year-old McMahan into custody in Dallas nearly three years after authorities say he joined the pro-Trump mob.

According to reports, McMahan worked with the mob that attacked the Capitol. He reportedly wrote a red “Make America Great Again” hat with “God” in black marker. In addition, authorities say that his Google search history after the riot further proved his involvement in the Capitol riot.

His search history includes, “Can I resign from the military if I do not want to serve an illegitimate president?” According to the court papers, McMahan’s search history also includes “capitol terrorists identified.”

Consequently, he faces felony charges of assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers and obstruction of law enforcement. In addition, McMahan faces misdemeanor offense charges.

The court docket did not name a lawyer for the Air Force sergeant. However, the voice mailbox was full for a number listed for McMahan, and a person who answered the phone at a number listed for a relative declined to comment.

The Air Force Reserve Command issued an emailed statement following McMahan’s arrest. They revealed in the statement that McMahan is a “reservist” at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, Texas.

According to the Command, McMahan is a 301st Fighter Wing medical squadron staff sergeant. In addition, the command said he is a traditional reservist who is not actively participating in the unit.

Aside from the overwhelming evidence on his phone, authorities say McMahan appeared in camera footage outside the Capitol Building. He was allegedly pushing back and forth against an officer outside a Capitol door before going into the building.

Also, during another encounter with law enforcement inside, prosecutors say McMahan attempted to swat at an officer. He reportedly grabbed an officer’s fingers, appearing to crush them in his hand.

In addition, before leaving the Capitol, the footage showed him telling one officer: “You’re a traitor,” according to court papers. Later that day, McMahan appeared outside the Capitol wearing a green ballistics helmet and carrying an American flag.

Furthermore, authorities say McMahan took to social media to boast about his participation in the riot. “Those that think we went in because of Trump are uninformed. We, the people, are the ones that need to rid our government of corruption, abuse, and tyranny!” the Air Force sergeant wrote on social media.

Kyle McMahan is among the people authorities charged with federal crimes for their involvement in the January 6 Capitol riot. The Capitol riot left dozens of police officers injured and halted the certification of President Joe Biden’s election victory.
