The COVID-19 pandemic may be over, but its ravaging effects still lingers. Dr. Anthony Fauci, former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director, is definitely feeling them. He now has to deal with the consequences of his actions back then.
Fauci is agreeing to testify before the Republican-led House over the COVID-19 response. His testimony will include two days of transcribed interviews behind closed doors and a later public hearing. It will be his first appearance before the Republican-controlled House.
The subcommittee’s ultimate goal is to investigate various aspects of the pandemic. These may include the virus’s origin, mandates, research, and scientific censorship.

Rep. Brad Wenstrup wrote in a statement. “Dr. Fauci was the face of America’s public health response during the COVID-19 pandemic, and his testimony will serve as a crucial component of the Select Subcommittee’s investigations into the origin of COVID-19, coercive mandates, gain-of-function type research, scientific censorship, and more.”
Wenstrup believes it is high time for Dr. Fauci to face the facts. He also wants him to address the controversies that linger even after the pandemic. According to the Republican, “Americans deserve trusted public health leaders. Those who will prioritize the American people’s well-being over personal or political goals.”
“Thankfully, retirement from public service does not shield one from Congressional oversight nor accountability to the American people. During Dr. Fauci’s upcoming testimonies, honesty is non-negotiable,” Wenstrup concludes.
While the investigation is ongoing, special attention will go to Fauci’s changing public health advice during the pandemic. The impact of these actions, such as school closures and learning deficits, will also be under scrutiny.

Another thing under scrutiny is the viruses’ origin. Wenstrup, a longtime member of the House Intelligence Committee, accuses Fauci and U.S. intelligence of hiding critical facts about its investigation.
Just last year, Republicans on the committee argued there are “indications” China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology developed the virus as a bioweapon. Nevertheless, many scientists, including Fauci, still think the virus was borne of natural causes and jumped from animals to humans. The well-documented phenomenon is known as a spillover event.

Virus researchers have not been able to identify any critical new scientific evidence that might make the lab-leak hypothesis a more likely possibility. However, Republicans believe Fauci lied to Congress when he denied in May 2022 the National Institutes of Health-funded “gain of function” research in Wuhan.
This enhances a virus in a lab to study its potential impact in the real world.
The Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic initially requested a sit-down with Fauci in February. However, they disagreed on the timing and details of the interviews until earlier this month.
