Republican Strategist Believes The GOP and Democrat Party Might Be Better Off Without Trump and Biden as Front-Runners

In less than a year, Americans would head to the polls to choose a president. Tim Scott has already withdrawn from the race. So far, the top front-runners for the Democrats and Republicans are President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. However, political strategist Karl Rove cautions Republicans against nominating Trump for the 2024 elections.

In an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, Rove wrote, “As Democrats savor their victories in Tuesday’s Ohio abortion referendum, Kentucky governor’s race and Virginia and New Jersey legislative contests, they might be tempted to ignore the implications of a Nov. 3 New York Times/Siena College poll that shows Donald Trump beating Joe Biden in five of six 2024 battleground states. Mr. Trump lost all six in 2020.”

Many Voters Are in Support of the Republican Party

Karl Rove was a political strategist for former president George W. Bush. He believes that the current figures don’t favor President Biden in 2024. While this presents a risk of him losing at the polls, it is also clear that the voters aren’t so keen on Donald Trump either.

Research shows that voters connect with what they believe are the GOP’s values on the economy, national debt, defense, immigration, and crime. This means that in the run-up to the elections, voters may respond in favor of the Republicans. Regardless of how Democrats may try to portray the opposition candidate as an insurrectionist, white supremacist, or even an election-denying liar.

This means that if, in the end, the Grand Old Party has Trump as its presidential nominee, many people might vote for him. Not because they are his die-hard supporters but because they believe in the values of the Republican party. So, if Trump is the option they are faced with, they will make a choice they don’t want but have to.

According to Rove’s op-ed, the front-runners of both the Democrat and Republican parties are formidable and won’t be easily dislodged. “But if no changes are made, Americans will get the worst dumpster fire of a campaign in history,” he wrote. Americans don’t need to be put in a tight spot like this, and there’s a lot that both parties can do to fix it.

A Party With a New Face Will Most Likely Win

Rove wrote that any party that eventually picks a new candidate has a better chance of sitting in the Oval Office in 2024.

This is because the American people are not interested in being caught in the middle of a standoff between a 78-year-old man and an 82-year-old man.

POLL — Should Donald J. Trump Be Allowed to Run for Office?

It May Be Time for Biden and Trump to Give a Chance to Others

Both Trump and Biden have already contested against each other at the polls. Rove believes it is time for both men to step back and give a chance to a younger generation of leaders.

Also, statistics show that most American voters believe both men are too old to contest.

The Republicans Remain Hopeful

The Republicans have had a wave of disappointment in Senate races. This was either because of the selected candidate or the candidate’s track record.

Nonetheless, the GOP is hoping that they will be able to gain Senate control despite the losses. But this could mean primary battles between different factions of the Republican party.

Early Poll Show Trump Leading President Biden

Furthermore, a Nov. 3 New York Times/Siena College poll shows Donald Trump leading against President Joe Biden in five of six 2024 battleground states.

Interestingly, Trump had lost in all states back in 2020. The poll places President Biden at a disadvantage with young, Latino, and black voters who were critical to his 2020 victory.

President Biden is Suffering Poor Approval Ratings

Several reasons cause President Biden’s loss of sway with these important groups. For example, the numbers indicate poor approval on vital issues such as the economy and healthcare.

Also, about 71% of respondents in the poll feel that Biden is too old to run for president again. Another 62% think he doesn’t have the mental sharpness necessary to be the leader of the free world.

An Unlikely Contender

The Times/Siena poll also shows former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley beat President Biden in all six battleground states. Also, her margins were wider than Trump’s in four states.

Biden’s team may try to cast Ms. Haley as “ultra-MAGA,” but the survey shows that voters know the difference between the GOP and Trump’s ideologies.

The 2024 Election is Not Clear Cut

“Both party’s front-runners have enormous weaknesses. Joe and Jill Biden are deluding themselves if they believe only he can defeat Mr. Trump,” Rove wrote.

“But the GOP leader could sink his own campaign with the constant trashing of his intra-party rivals and their supporters. Turned off, they could fail to turn out or even turn away from the GOP.”

Democrats Need to Stay Focused

Rove also cautioned Democrats not to get carried away by their recent victories. Democratic Gov.

Andy Beshear was reelected in Kentucky, and the right to an abortion was written into Ohio’s state constitution. Also, Virginia Democrats gained control in their state legislature.

Rove Believes Americans Deserve More Options

While Rove may be a Republican strategist, he’s not the biggest fan of Donald Trump. In the past, he has referred to Trump’s campaign style as “petty, small, and unimportant.” And with Americans possibly stuck with the option of Biden and Trump, Rove doesn’t believe the situation is ideal.

“It doesn’t have to be this way, and everyone but Messrs. Trump and Biden has good reason to try changing it. The party that picks a fresh face will likely win the White House,” he wrote. Is he correct, though? The 2024 election is building up to a tight, complicated contest.
