Zooey Deschanel’s children are Elsie Otter, 9, and Charlie Wolf, 7, and they are two of the luckiest people in the world because they get not two but three parents!
The New Girl actress shares both kids with her ex-husband, Jacob Pechenik, and although they parted ways in 2019, the pair remain on good terms.
Additionally, reality TV star Jonathan Scott, who has a wedding to plan with Deschanel, has also taken a liking to the kids and plays an active role in their lives. He even considers himself their “Bonus Dad.”

How Jonathan Scott Deals With Step-Parenting Zoey Deschanel’s Children
In a snippet of a June 2023 interview with PEOPLE, Scott confessed that it was not always a simple task to be a “Bonus Dad.” “One thing that was a struggle early on was that the kids didn’t necessarily run up and jump in my arms and give me a big hug,” he shared.
“I also remember several times where they’d be out with other kids, and someone would say, ‘Oh your daddy’s so funny,’ and they’d be like, ‘That’s not my daddy. He’s my Jonathan.’ So that would hurt a little bit.”
It took some time, but when Scott eventually realized “that in their mind, that’s not a mean thing to say — it’s how they know me,” things got better. He not only gets along with the kids, there is also no bad blood between him and their father. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight last month, Scott praised Pechenik for being a good parent.
He called him a “great dad” and admitted they share an “amazing relationship.” “I love it when the kids draw photos. They draw Mommy and Daddy and Jonathan. It’s really sweet.”
