Zendaya Opens Up on Why She Hasn’t Watched ‘DWTS’ Since Her “Very Stressful Experience”

Zendaya recently revealed why she has avoided watching DWTS. Her experience on “Dancing with the Stars” has stayed with her throughout the years. The 28-year-old actress reflected on her participation in the popular dance show and why she has opted not to watch it since.

This occurred during an appearance on the October 3 episode of Entertainment Weekly’s Awardist Podcast. She laughed and revealed that she had not seen “Dancing With the Stars” since she was on the show. 

She also stated that she did not view it prior to participating since she did not believe she fit within the target demographic. The stunning actress mentioned that her grandmother enjoys watching the show and calls it her favorite show. Zendaya added that she found the experience extremely stressful and chose to stop watching the show.

When Was Zendaya On Dancing With The Stars?

Zendaya competed on season 16 of “Dancing with the Stars” in 2013. She began her adventure on “Dancing With the Stars” season 16 as the youngest contender ever. Unsurprisingly, she impressed the judges with her first dance on stage.

In 2013, DWTS invited 11 new celebrities to participate in the dancing competition. During a season with incredibly stiff competition, Zendaya demonstrated herself as a professional dancer who wowed the judges each week. 

She described herself as a hip-hop dancer and was able to adjust to an entirely different form of dancing while delivering some great moments on and off stage. At 16 years old, Zendaya showed maturity beyond her years and was complimented by the judges for her ability to bring each performance to life.

The “Euphoria” actress is widely regarded as one of the top contestants in the show’s long history because of her positive attitude throughout the competition. She topped the leaderboards for six of the competition’s ten weeks.

Zendaya received the season’s first 10s from Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli for her superb Argentine Tango and a 9 from Len Goodman.

Zendaya was partnered with professional dancer Valentin Chmerkovskiy during her appearance on DWTS. In a May 2023 interview on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” the choreographer was asked who his most memorable partner on the ABC celebrity ballroom competition was, and he did not hesitate to name Zendaya. 

He chose Zendaya as the most memorable of his partners since she entered the competition at a pivotal point in her life. While the two appeared to be on their way to victory, they finished second behind Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough.

The pair narrowly missed winning the mirrorball trophy. Many supporters believe she deserved to win the entire tournament, and #ZendayaIsOurWinner trended on Twitter at the moment. 

Zendaya and Chmerkovskiy received the highest point total on both finale nights, with a perfect score for their freestyle dance to Justin Bieber’s “Beauty and a Beat.” Not only did the two perform admirably, but they also performed alongside a group of young dancers who all expressed their support for Zendaya.

However, it was not until five years later that both parties revealed their relationship. In an episode of Jay Shetty’s “On Purpose,” Holland stated that his connection with Zendaya is “most sacred.”
