Sunday is a day of rest. And that was what most netizens were doing when Joe Biden took to X/Twitter with a post on gun control. His post boasts about his administration’s progress on gun control at a time when the border crisis has many Americans worrying about their safety.
It was not the best idea, and it triggered significant backlash. According to The POTUS, his administration is working toward banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Biden reiterated that his administration will ‘finish the job’ of banning assault weapons.
He wrote, “I’ve taken more executive actions to stop the flow of illegal guns than any other administration in history. We beat the NRA when I signed the most significant gun safety law in nearly 30 years,” he boasted. “We’re going to finish the job and ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.”
In March 2023, the white house revealed Biden’s goal of “increasing the number of background checks conducted before firearm sales, moving the US as close to universal background checks as possible without additional legislation.”

The order further aims to “keep more guns out of dangerous hands by increasing the effective use of ‘red flag’ laws, strengthen efforts to hold the gun industry accountable, and accelerate law enforcement efforts to identify and apprehend the shooters menacing … communities.”
The Biden administration has also announced new executive actions to help promote the safe storage of firearms in late January.
There were a variety of responses to Biden’s post. And most of them show that most netizens are unhappy with Biden’s gun control efforts, especially at this time when the border security crisis is looming as a far more pressing issue.

One woman wrote: “Disarming the American population while you keep the borders open. Great! You hate Americans!” Another asked, “What if the gun comes in through the southern border seeking asylum?”
One user pointed out how there has been a “war on drugs” for years without any victory and said the same thing is happening with guns.
“You can’t keep drugs off the streets, you can’t keep drugs out of elementary schools, you can’t even keep drugs out of federal prison or the White House,” the user wrote. “Yet, you want me to disarm myself and trust that YOU can keep guns from criminals?”
