Losing Power
The world’s largest cruise ship did, however, experience one significant problem during this fire: the ship’s power was lost. The electricity was turned off while the crew worked to put out the fire.
Reports have verified that the ship’s backup power was turned on and that the power outage was only momentary.
Travelers Were Affected
While it does not appear that any passengers were present when the fire broke out, voyagers were affected in general.
A Facebook group of Icon of the Seas social media users stated that their day was disrupted only slightly, most likely due to the power outage. However, normal operations resumed immediately, thus this had little impact.

Other Fires on Cruises
There have been previous instances of cruise ship fires. Regretfully, it most likely won’t be the last either. After all, these kinds of things do happen sometimes.
The most recent incident involved a Carnival Cruise Lines ship that caught fire in March 2024. The ship’s tail was on fire, as shown in the terrifying footage. According to early reports, a lightning strike caused the ship’s tail to catch fire.
Accidental Fires on Cruise Ships
Officials have stated that prospective guests shouldn’t fear because fires on cruise ships don’t always happen frequently.
But these same officials have also acknowledged that fires happen frequently. In the event of a fire, the ship’s crew is highly skilled in handling the situation swiftly and without causing any inconvenience to the guests.
