On January 16, 2025, the sad news of David Lynch’s passing went public and sparked a sorrowful mood in the entertainment community. Before his death, David Lynch was a Hollywood icon and a role model for many. His 78 years on earth left a permanent mark in the movie and entertainment industry. But also his children.
Announcing the demise of the legendary movie director, actor, and musician, the family referenced how much of an influence he was on his world. “It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and the artist, David Lynch,” began the statement which was released via Facebook.
“There’s a big hole in the world now that he’s no longer with us,” the obituary continued. “But, as he would say, “Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole’… it’s a beautiful day with golden sunshine and blue skies all the way,” the post added. Notably, David Lynch died of lung disease.
Aside from the show biz and art world, David Lynch would be most missed by his children. The multiple Academy Award nominee had, in the past, described his strong bond with his kids. “I love all my children and we get along great,” he declared in a 2018 interview. Let’s meet them.

David Lynch had four children—two girls and two boys—before passing on Thursday, January 16, 2025. They are Jennifer, Austin, Riley, and Lula. Let’s meet them.
Jennifer Lynch
The first child of David Lynch, Jennifer Lynch, 56, has taken after her dad. She is a director and writer. Born in 1968, Jennifer is a product of David Lynch and Peggy’s marriage (his first marriage) which lasted from 1967 to 1974. She is also a mother to Sydney, a baby she had with her ex-partner, Andrew J. Peterson.
Speaking about her late dad, she revealed that their relationship wasn’t simple. She disclosed this while speaking to PEOPLE magazine in 1990. “He was not your normal dad, but he’s been the best dad he could ever be, and we’ve had a blast,” she stated.
David Lynch seemed to agree with Jennifer when he described fatherhood as a “tricky business” despite stating that he enjoyed every moment of it. “The work is the main thing, and I know I’ve caused suffering because of that. But at the same time, I have huge love for the kids,” he stated.
Austin Lynch
Austin Jack Lynch, 42, is David Lynch’s second child and first son. He has also followed in his father’s footsteps in acting and movie-making. Austin also took part both as an actor and behind the scenes in some of his late dad’s last movie projects, such as “Twin Peaks” and “Inland Empire.”
Austin was born in Los Angeles on September 7, 1982. He is the product of David Lynch and Fisk’s marriage, which lasted for ten years. This was David Lynch’s second marriage.
Riley Lynch
Riley Sweeney Lynch, 33, was born in 1992 from David Lynch’s third marriage. He is the filmmaker’s second son and third child. Riley has also taken after his father as a movie director, singer, and actor. Over the years, he has found a way to combine his love for music and acting.
He worked on “Twin Peaks” as a production assistant and also performed with the band Trouble in one of the episodes. Describing how he was able to collaborate with them, he said, “I told my dad that if he liked a song that Dean and Alex and I came up with, then he had to put it in there, and if he didn’t like it then we were out.”
Riley, whose mom is also in the entertainment industry, described how it feels like having both parents in the art world. “Sure, there’s pressure, but my ideas are very much my own, and after I make a few things I think people will start to get that,” Riley said. “I just have to keep making,” he stated in a 2018 interview.
Lula Lynch
Lula Boginia Lynch is David Lynch’s second daughter and youngest child. The 12-year-old was born on August 28, 2012. Interestingly, her parents named her after Lula Fortune, the lead character in her dad’s 1990 movie “Wild at Heart.”
Lula hasn’t been seen in public many times. But she has made some notable appearances one of which was in November 2017 during the 12th Rome Film Festival. She is in the custody of her mother, Emily, who married David Lynch in 2009 and divorced him in 2023.

David Lynch’s Children Tribute
David Lynch’s kids penned a heartfelt tribute to their father on his death. The four kids released a joint statement on Saturday, January 18, 2025, two days after he died. “David Lynch, our beloved dad, was a guiding light of creativity, love, and peace,” the statement which they posted on social media began.
They used the opportunity to invite people to a “worldwide group meditation” on Monday, January 20, 2025, which would have been his 79th birthday. “Let us come together, wherever we are, to honor his legacy by spreading peace and love across the world,” the message stated.
