One of the world’s most prominent fashion brands is back after a six-year break. On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, Victoria’s Secret held its fashion show in Brooklyn, New York, after a six-year hiatus.
The event showcased an all-female musical lineup and a diverse array of models in elegant and casual lingerie, highlighting a clear female perspective. Among the guests on the runaway were Gigi Hadid and Lisa from Blackpink, who kicked off the event with a dynamic performance.
Hadid emerged from the stage, blending Barbie movie magic with an 80s video game vibe. The supermodel and other models donned the brand’s emblematic angel wings, which were PETA-approved for 2024. One obvious thing from the show is the runaway diversity, with the models showcasing natural hairstyles and body types.
When Was the Last Victoria’s Secret Runway?
The last Victoria’s Secret Runway show was held in December 2018. In May 2019, Les Wexner, the CEO of L Brands, reportedly expressed doubts about the program’s future. Wexner had reportedly issued a memo claiming that network television was no longer the appropriate match.
The memo further stated that the firm would instead concentrate on creating “innovative and dynamic content and a new type of event.” Although the fashion show generated backlash for non-inclusivity, viewership also played a major factor in its hiatus.
As of December 2018, the fashion show had a total viewership of 3.2 million, in contrast to its 9.2 million viewers in 2014. The show was also plagued by growing competition and shifting opinions about its marketing.

According to a retail analyst, the show was pushing women to “impress males” by objectifying themselves. Subsequently, on November 21, 2019, Stuart Burgdoerfer, CFO of L Brands, formally announced the cancellation of the 2019 fashion show.
Burgdoerfer cited the dwindling popularity and lack of quick material impact on Victoria’s Secret sales after transmission. After the Epstein scandal, it was reported that the corporation aimed to distance itself from the issue due to Wexner’s ties to Epstein.
Why Did Victoria’s Secret Discontinue Angels?
In 2021, Victoria’s Secret announced it was discontinuing its “angels,” a nickname for a model with a contractual obligation with the brand. According to the brand’s CEO, Martin Waters, Victoria’s Secret decided that its exclusive group of celebrity models was no longer culturally relevant.
