For featuring in a porn video, Joe Gow has lost his position as University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Chancellor. The University of Wisconsin Board of Regents unanimously decided to remove him during an emergency meeting.
The Board of Regents, which oversees the University’s 12 campuses, including La Crosse, said Gow’s actions caused the University “significant reputational harm.” After reaching the decision, the University’s President, Jay Rothman, and the Regent’s President, Karen Walsh, spoke about their resolution. They described Gow’s action as “abhorrent” and disgusting.
Gow had produced and appeared in a pornographic video along with his wife, Carmen Wilson. On his part, he has expressed disappointment over the board’s decision. He argued that his sack violated his right to free speech.
Gow stated that he expected much more from the school, which has prided itself on upholding the right of individuals to express themselves.

“I got an email last night saying I was terminated,” he told newsmen. “I wish I would have had the opportunity to have a hearing. When reasonable people understand what my wife and I are creating, it calms them down.”
Gow also accused the school of denying him a fair hearing. He complained that the board never disclosed to him the policy he flouted.
“My wife and I live in a country where we have a First Amendment,” he contended. “We’re dealing with consensual adult sexuality. The regents are overreacting. They’re certainly not adhering to their commitment to free speech or the First Amendment.”
Dismissing Gow’s claims, Rothman told newsmen that Gow’s conduct failed to set a good example for students, the faculty, and the community. He also rebuked the former Chancellor for seeing free speech as a liberty to do or say anything he wanted.

According to a written statement from Rothman, “Good judgment requires that there are and must be limits on what is said or done by the individuals entrusted to lead our universities.”
The school discovered Gow’s actions after the pornographic videos surfaced online. Gow and his wife are the major features in “Sexy Healthy Cooking,” a YouTube channel with over 3,000 subscribers. There, Gow and his wife collaborate with top porn stars to make “delicious vegan food.”
Gow and his wife have also authored 2 e-books, “Married with Benefits — Our Real-Life Adult Industry Adventures” and “Monogamy with Benefits: How Porn Enriches Our Relationship.” Moreover, the couple hasn’t hidden their interest in the adult film industry. Their biographies also contain links to pornographic websites.

His explanations that he was promoting the school’s free speech policy didn’t impress the board of regents. The incident led to Gow missing out on a raise that year.
However, the former Chancellor argued that he never mentioned the school or his affiliation with it in the videos. Although he lost his status as Chancellor, Gow will remain an academic university staff for now.
