The U.S. Air Force and the Royal Jordanian Air Force collaborated on Sunday in a mission to airdrop essential humanitarian aid into northern Gaza. This joint effort aimed to “alleviate human suffering” in the region, as stated by the U.S. Central Command.

The Jordanian Air Force provided over 11,500 meals, including rice, flour, pasta, and canned goods. These supplies were loaded onto U.S. Air Force C-130 planes, which dropped pallets of aid attached to parachutes over northern Gaza, according to a statement from the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

Furthermore, CENTCOM stated that these airdrops are part of an ongoing effort, and there are plans for additional aerial deliveries in the future.

The airdrops took place at approximately 2 p.m. local time as a part of the initiative to “provide essential relief to civilians in Gaza affected by the ongoing conflict,” as stated by CENTCOM. This marked the second consecutive day of humanitarian aid drops in northern Gaza.

Since the Hamas terrorist group initiated an unexpected attack on Israel on October 7, over 31,000 people have lost their lives in Gaza, with at least 72,524 others sustaining injuries, according to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Ministry of Health.

In Israel, the death toll stands at a minimum of 1,200 people, as reported by the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office. Additionally, at least 23 individuals have died from malnutrition in the Gaza Strip, including three children who tragically passed away on Friday due to malnutrition and dehydration at the Al-Shifa medical complex, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.

Moreover, the U.S. Air Force C-130 aircraft conducted a humanitarian operation, delivering over 41,400 meals and 23,000 water bottles to northern Gaza.

POLL—Is Climate Change a Major Threat That Requires Immediate Policy Action?

In a March 2 message on X, previously Twitter, President Joe Biden emphasized the insufficiency of aid to Gaza and pledged continued efforts to maximize assistance.

The humanitarian deliveries occur as international humanitarian groups persist in urging a cease-fire. With the Holy month of Ramadan nearing, and demands for the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza persisting.

However, Gaza reportedly holds approximately 134 hostages, with 130 connected to the ongoing conflict and four to the 2014 war. Among these captives, at least 32 are presumed deceased, as reported by the Israel Defense Forces and the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office.

“There is nowhere safe for people to go. The civilian death toll and the ongoing captivity of hostages are shocking and unacceptable,” the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent said in a statement Saturday.

Biden said on Friday the chances of securing a cease-fire deal between Israel and Hamas before Ramadan begins on Sunday night are “tough.” International organizations report that hundreds of truckloads of humanitarian aid have remained stranded in Gaza, exacerbating the ongoing crisis.

Israeli officials from the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) stated that 200 and 300 truckloads of aid destined for southern Gaza were awaiting distribution at the Kerem Shalom crossing point on Tuesday.
