The announcement of this action by the Department of Homeland Security coincides with a heated political debate concerning President Joe Biden’s efforts to clamp down on illegal immigration entries amid the latest record-high wave of migrants entering the country.

As stated by Alejandro Mayorkas, secretary of Homeland Security, the US will keep up its enforcement of immigration rules and expel those who do not have the proper documentation to be in the country.

Collaboration with China

According to reports, the Department of Homeland Security and China have been collaborating more effectively to curb and discourage erratic movement as well as combat illegal immigration by stepping up investigations.

This current step is probably the result of this collaboration as America has recently had trouble sending Chinese nationals back into China due to the state’s reluctance to accept them.

Getting Back Into Collaboration

The Associated Press stated in May that China and the US had resumed their covert cooperation about the removal of Chinese nationals from the US. China was prepared to continue communication and collaboration with the United States on border security, the Chinese foreign ministry said during a statement to the Associated Press.

Border Emergency

Given the humanitarian issues as well as the pressure that the current influx of immigration has placed on local assets spanning the nation, some have dubbed the immigration wave a “migrant crisis.”

With approximately 250,000 interactions with migrants in the month of December, the US witnessed the greatest monthly number of migrant entries ever recorded.

Chinese Foreigners

Although media reports tend to focus primarily on migrants entering the US from southern nations, an unprecedented number of immigrants from different parts of the globe, such as China, are also making their way to the US border.

Ten times as many Chinese citizens were detained by US border guards in 2023 compared to what they did in the previous year along the southern border.

Workers with low salaries who struggled amid China’s inadequate rebound and restrictions are increasingly choosing to go to the United States due to its stronger recuperation from the global epidemic than China.

Diminished Capability to Migrate

In order to make it harder for migrants to request sanctuary in the US, a number of measures were implemented lately. To more effectively stop anyone attempting to breach their northern border, Mexican border guards have stepped up their efforts.

The famed Darien Gap migration route is being closed by Panama, whereas Ecuador is discontinuing its visa-free entry status for Chinese nationals, resulting in an increasingly common location for them to arrive.

Putting Together an Army

Republicans, notably the late President Donald Trump, have been attempting to politicize Chinese immigration and sow doubt about its implications. In an earlier interview this year, Trump charged that a large number of Chinese immigrants heading toward the southern border are likely males of combative age who are assembling a force.

President Biden, on the other hand, has lately taken a more assertive stand against China, charging it with unfair trade agreements that endanger US companies. He has also modified his position on the import duties that President Trump had implemented.

Immigration’s Political Environment

The former leader’s detractors have taken advantage of his remarks to charge him with inciting hatred toward Asian Americans and Chinese immigrants.

The degrading speech and outright accusations towards immigrant communities by Trump, according to Cynthia Choi, co-founder of Stop AAPI Hate and co-executive director of Chinese for Affirmative Action, would surely incite further prejudice towards not just Chinese immigrants but also all Asian Americans in the United States. She stressed that they are acutely conscious of the damaging effects of this kind of speech during an extremely volatile electoral season.

Seized with Fear

A sense of terror instilled by individuals seeking to repress Asian immigrants has been conveyed by some, who claim that it is reminiscent of the anti-Asian sentiments that were promoted during the global epidemic.

The possibility that they will have to deal with that again is rather depressing, according to Gregg Orton, national director of the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans.

Racism Against Asians

According to a Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism research from 2022, acts of hatred targeting Asians rose by 339 % on a national level than the year before.
