The presidential campaign team for Donald Trump has filed an official complaint against the Democrats. The complaint was aimed at blocking the transfer of money generated by President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign to Harris.

On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, CNN reported that Trump’s team had filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission. According to the report, the complaint highlighted that the donations made to President Biden’s re-election campaign could not be transferred to Harris.

The Complaint

According to CNN, the complaint states that “Kamala Harris is seeking to perpetrate a $91.5 million heist of Joe Biden’s leftover campaign cash — a brazen money grab that would constitute the single largest excessive contribution and biggest violation in the history of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, as amended.”

Additionally, the complaint claims that Biden and Harris filed fraudulent forms with the Commission to repurpose a candidate’s campaign committee. It stated that Harris was a candidate for something in 2024, and as such, she is required by federal law to file a Statement of Candidacy. The complaint stated that after doing so, her name must appear in the name of the authorized committee.

However, Harris did not appear in the name of the supposed authorized committee, ‘Biden for President. Additionally, the complaint stated that no Statement of Candidacy existed for Harris until Sunday, July 21, 2024.

Subsequently, the complaint alleged that instead of Harris filing her own Statement of Candidacy, she changed Biden’s name with hers. The complaint claimed that Harris’ actions violated 18 U.S.C. § 1519.3 of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, as amended.

Harris Campaign Reacts

Reacting to the complaint, a spokesperson for the Harris campaign, Charles Kretchmer Lutvak, spoke with CNN on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. Lutvak said that the Republicans are jealous that Democrats are energized to defeat Trump and his MAGA allies. However, baseless legal claims like this one would only end up distracting them, while they are making progress.

Following President Biden’s Sunday, July 21, 2024, endorsement, Harris started her campaign trail trip on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. Only days after Republicans chose their nominees for president and vice president, Harris will travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a Republican battleground city.
