Following a solo car accident that nearly claimed the life of iconic golf player, Tiger Woods, the 45-year-old is filled with gratitude. Via Twitter, the star extended his appreciation to fans for their touching show of love and support.
Since encountering the devastating accident, fans of the athlete have flooded various media platforms with soothing words and prayers for him.
Many went a notch further, donning Wood’s signature Sunday red T.Shirt at the final round of the WGC-Workday Championship. The gesture attracted the heartfelt message from the star, who used the medium to thank both fans and fellow golfers.
The tweet expressed the athlete’s joy at witnessing the massive turnout in his honor. Additionally, it pointed out how the subtle tribute contributed to his recovery process. It read:
“It‘S hard to explain how touching today was when I turned on the TV and saw all the red shirts. To every golfer and every fan, you are truly helping me get through this tough time.”
Among those that honored Woods at the event was pro golfer, Tony Finau, who donned a red mock-neck golf shirt. Tommy Fleetwood, Sebastian Munoz, Jason Day, and Justin Thomas also arrived in red golf shirts.
Explaining the significance of the touching tribute, Thomas noted that it was a way of making the legendary golfer feel some kind of support amid his crisis.
Rory McIlory described the gesture as a means of appreciating the legend for what he stood for in the golfing universe, even as he endured his long recovery process.
The golf champion has been open about his recovery journey since the accident, sharing occasional updates on his progress. In his last update, posted on Twitter, Tiger Woods confirmed he received follow-up surgical procedures.
The update also included some words of appreciation from the star and his family, to everyone who sent out messages and other forms of support to them in the past few days.
The golf player encountered the solo-vehicle crash just before 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday, February 23. Reportedly, he was on his way to the Rolling Hills Club for a meeting with NFL QBs Drew Brees and Justin Herbert when the vehicle crashed on Hawthorne Boulevard, near Los Angeles.
The almost-fatal incident left Tiger Woods with a right leg injury, comprising fractures to his tibia and fibula. He also sustained foot and ankle injuries. The legend underwent emergency surgery following his admission to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
Two days later, Woods’ representatives confirmed his transfer to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for follow-up orthopedic procedures.
Although Woods is a long way from total recovery, the vast support from fans, colleagues, and relatives, as well as his immense gratitude for life are sure to keep him going.
