Tiger Woods, the legendary golf player encountered an accident last month, causing him significant injuries that required emergency surgery.
Days after professional golf player Tiger Woods encountered a major accident in Los Angeles, California, he commenced his long path to total recovery.
The 45-year-old confirmed in a tweet that his recovery was in progress following a round of surgery to correct the injuries to his right leg. He remains at the Cedar-Sinai Medical Center, where he would undergo further procedures until he regains effective control of his body functions.
TIGER WOODS’ NEAR-FATAL ACCIDENT
Woods became involved in the accident just before 7:12 a.m. on Tuesday, February 23. Reports obtained from the Los Angeles County Sheriff, Alex Villanueva, show the star was driving alone in his vehicle when the incident occurred.
He however had no recollection of the crash, as he told investigators while being interrogated at the hospital. The incident took place along Hawthorne Boulevard, near Rolling Hills Estate and Rancho Palos Verdes.
Woods was reportedly the only occupant of the vehicle, which rolled-over, sustaining serious damages. First responders found the golf legend trapped in the wrecked SUV, still responsive. Following his extraction from the wreckage, he received transportation to the harbor-UCLA Medical center to commence immediate treatment.
WAS TIGER WOODS SERIOUSLY INJURED?
Although still responsive at the time of his rescue, the icon sustained severe injuries, especially to his right leg. A doctor at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Dr. Anish Mahajan, revealed that Tiger Woods’ injury featured “comminuted open fractures” affecting his tibia and fibula bones.
In addition, he sustained major injuries to the bones of his foot and ankle. As part of the treatment, surgeons inserted a rod into the tibia, as a remedy for Tiger Woods’ leg injury. Meanwhile, the foot and ankle injuries required strategically inserted screws and pins.
WHAT LED TO THE ACCIDENT
Villanueva affirmed during a news conference that the cause of Tiger Woods’ accident was yet to be ascertained. Investigations conducted at the scene suggest the icon may have been driving at a speed above the permitted 45 m.p.h. on Hawthorne Boulevard.
The Sheriff also pointed out other possible causes like inattention, which the department would look into. Notably, the pointers remain unclear, as no skid marks appeared on the scene, nor were other vehicles involved.
However, the Sheriff ruled out impairment as a possible factor, adding that the incident would therefore be treated as an accident, not a crime.
UPDATE ON TIGER WOODS’ HEALTH
Shortly after the incident, Tiger Woods’ team released an update on his condition, affirming his treatment was progressing. The post revealed that the pro golfer was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to undergo follow-up procedures.
A subsequent post affirmed the procedures turned out successful, leaving the 45-year-old recovering and in good spirits. It also included a note of thanks from the Woods for the love and support from fans and well-wishers.
Wood’s treatment procedures join the growing list of bone surgeries the icon has undergone since the onset of his career, including five knee surgeries and five back surgeries.
The development left many wondering if this remarkable golf legend would ever return to his feet, with enough stamina to stage a breathtaking comeback and defend his golf championship. Only time will tell.
