Thin Eyebrows Are Back, But Are They Here to Stay?

According to beauty experts, the neatly lacquered brow vogue is dying off, while thin brow designs are on the increase. Good news for anybody who irreversibly destroyed their brows in the 1990s with tweezers and poor lights: the barely-there brow has decided to make an appearance again.

Big-browed lovelies like Cara Delevingne and Zoe Kravitz have molded aesthetic norms for over a decade. However, if trend predictions and runways are any indication, less is becoming more yet again.

The retro cosmetic revival can be seen all over, from TikTok to Paris Fashion Week. For the Maison Margiela show, makeup artist Pat McGrath applied delicate curving lines upwards on the models’ foreheads, disguising their natural arches beneath.

In May, Zendaya, FKA Twigs, and Doja Cat all opted for blanched or wafer-thin eyebrows at the Met Gala. However, what looks good on a supermodel or a Hollywood actress may seem drastically distinct on a regular person.

Are Thin or Thick Eyebrows Better?

The thin brow trend is growing more popular on social networks. However, brow expert Kamini Vaghela has her reservations. Vaghela, who has been threading the eyebrows of celebrities, including monarchs, at her renowned London salon for over 35 years, cautions against replicating another person’s aesthetic.

She explained that brows are unique and must be nurtured as such, regardless of what trend dictates. She remembers seeing a picture of Twiggy at the pinnacle of her prominence in the 1960s and focusing on her brows.

“I took one look at her — she had thin pale eyebrows which suited her — and I knew so many women were going to copy her and look completely ludicrous,” she told reporters by phone. “I don’t believe in eyebrow trends at all. It’s about what suits the individual — no shape can suit everyone.”

Does Vaseline Help Your Eyebrows Grow?

If you are curious about using Vaseline to increase your eyebrows’ growth, professionals point out that there have been no scientific tests to prove that this method works. However, the salve can help your brows look fuller.

“Even though Vaseline has many beauty perks, including relieving topical skin conditions, it doesn’t do much to stimulate hair growth for your eyebrows,” said Chambers-Harris, a trichologist.

“However, using Vaseline can provide the illusion of bigger brows since it coats each strand, making them appear thicker. It can also function as a brow gel, keeping them in place.”

The hair on the eyebrows develops in a usual phase, similar to other parts of the body’s hair. According to Chambers-Harris, the hair on the brow increases continuously for up to four months before entering a period of repose and being removed from the skin.

Can Thin Eyebrows Become Thick Again?

It all depends. If the sparse eyebrows are caused by grooming or a medical condition that may be treated, the hair can regrow thicker. However, if the eyebrows are inherently thin, one may not be able to develop thicker ones.

Internal and environmental variables can all have an impact, including hormones, age, drugs, underlying health issues, friction, rubbing, grooming, and picking. “The volume of hair follicles we have is determined at birth, and we can’t really add more actual hair follicles,” Erum N. Ilyas says.

Ilyas, MD, MBE, FAAD, a board-certified dermatologist and the founder and CEO of AmberNoon, adds, “It’s possible for the quality of hair that develops from each follicle to vary over time in terms of how thin or thick the hair may be.”

Can Coconut Oil Grow Eyebrows?

Some claim that adding coconut oil to your brows can help them grow. However, there is only limited scientific proof to back up this notion. Coconut oil contains moisturizing and anti-inflammatory characteristics, and it may help keep your brows clean by protecting them from becoming brittle or inflamed.

While coconut oil can help maintain your brows healthy, it is only useful during the catagen stage of the hair development cycle. On the other hand, an eyebrow growth serum can stimulate your hair follicles, causing your brow hair to grow faster.

Hence, a brow growth serum remains the ideal option if you want a faster and more natural-looking result! Remember, just because brow beauty trends come and go does not imply that yours have to.
