While not many stones have the same brilliance as diamonds, nobody rocks like the Rolling Stones. Their recent Hackney Diamonds Tour went off with a bang, leaving fans excited and seeking more. Even more shocking is the knowledge that the Rolling Stones are adding three songs from the critically acclaimed “Hackney Diamonds” album to their repertoire in addition to their beloved favorites.
This is the band’s first original record in 18 years and the driving force behind their 16-city tour. Although vocalist Mick Jagger is more suited for marathons, we would still refer to it as a victory lap.
The ageless Mick Jagger floated over the stadium stage for two hours, defying the passage of time. His voice, as legendary as ever, screamed out favorites like “Miss You” and “Gimme Shelter.” It’s nearly impossible to believe unless you see it with your own eyes. As one older woman in the audience accurately put it, “People think Joe Biden is too old to be president. Mick has to be looked into.
The Stones led us through decades of music. The clock jumped to 1965 for a laid-back “Get Off of My Cloud,” then revved up with the energetic “Rocks Off” from 1972, a standout moment.

The big surprise, though, was when Jagger played “Out of Time.” This 1965 tune, long undisturbed on American soil, finally blessed Houston. Even if they weren’t aware of it at first, the audience eventually learned about it.
The evening’s Hackney Diamonds segment opened with the lead track, “Angry.” Reminiscent of their surprise album release event at New York’s club Racket last year, the crowd surged as soon as the song appeared onstage.
The stage, which was the length of the stadium and covered with screens projecting stunningly clear images of the band, was reminiscent of a Rolling Stones show.

Fans got a glimpse of the magic occurring a few feet behind Jagger and company with close-ups of drummer Steve Jordan, who took over rhythm duties after original drummer Charlie Watts passed away in 2021, joyfully thundering through the masterpiece “Paint It, Black,” and birthday boy Chuck Leavell tearing out a fleet-fingered solo on his Yamaha keyboard on “Honky Tonk Women.”
Their most recent album, Hackney Diamonds, exceeded expectations. Although some are hesitant to call it their “best since Tattoo You,” it’s certainly their strongest release since the 1980s. Achieving anything of this caliber at this point in their illustrious careers surprised everyone.

The Stones made a strong comeback to touring after a hiatus of nearly two years. The soul-infused song “Feed the Babies” was a set highlight that included amazing guitar work and a carefree attitude. The Rolling Stones are living proof that becoming older is only a number.
So get ready for an incredible journey if you’re fortunate enough to see them perform live on the Hackney Diamonds Tour. The Stones are still incomparable, their music ageless, and their enthusiasm infectious. Fans everywhere are anticipating the opportunity to experience the magic of rock ‘n’ roll as the tour progresses.
