The United States faces an increasing number of migrants at its borders. Despite measures such as the unclimbable border fence, the migrants seem to be undeterred. Texas is one of the most affected states.

So, to prevent Texas from being overwhelmed by the number of migrants, Gov. Greg Abbott has resorted to sending them to other cities. So far, the state has transported over 90,000 migrants to cities being called “sanctuary cities.” Some of these cities are Chicago, Denver, and New York City.

According to Gov. Abbott, the current crisis is because of President Joe Biden’s open border policies. He said that border towns in Texas are dealing with an overwhelming number of migrants daily, and border cities are only faced with a “fraction.”

“Texas has transported over 95,000 migrants to sanctuary cities. Sanctuary cities like NYC & Chicago have seen only a FRACTION of what overwhelmed Texas border towns face daily. We will continue our transportation mission until Biden reverses course on his open border policies,” Gov. Greg Abbott wrote in a post on X.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott started transporting migrants to other states in America back in April 2022. When his administration began, he said that border towns were experiencing a massive number of illegal immigrants. So, his administration figured out a solution.

“Texans cannot continue to shoulder the burdens imposed by open-border advocates in other parts of the country,” Abbott said at the time. However, many other lawmakers and Americans have criticized Abbott’s actions. According to them, he failed to coordinate with other governors and mayors about the busing scheme.

Since Abbott started busing migrants to other cities, New York City and Chicago mayors have complained about the influx of migrants in their cities. Also, they have been calling on President Joe Biden to provide more federal support to cater to the needs of the migrants. So far, the situation still remains the same.

Furthermore, New York City Mayor Eric Adams issued an executive order for charter bus companies to provide 32 hours’ notice before arriving with migrants. This is because of the overwhelming number of migrants depending on the city’s resources. However, bus companies have found a way to bypass the order by dropping off migrants in nearby cities in New Jersey.

Back in December 2023, Abbott took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to proudly announce that his administration has sent more than 33,000 migrants to New York City since 2022. He added that Chicago received the second-highest number of migrants from Texas border cities. According to him, Texas has sent over 28,000 migrants to Chicago since August 2022.

Although  President Joe Biden’s Administration has expressed commitment to working with Republicans to solve the border crisis, the situation remains the same. According to them, it is the fault of the Congressional Republicans. The administration claims that the Republicans are playing politics and don’t want to negotiate.
