Taraji P. Henson, known for her iconic portrayal of Cookie on “Empire,” will reunite with former co-star Terrence Howard. This will be in the highly-anticipated limited series, “Fight Night.” “Fight Night” centers around the backdrop of an armed robbery during Muhammed Ali’s comeback fight in 1970.

The acclaimed series “Empire,” which aired from 2015 to 2020, ended abruptly amid the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the series was a launching pad for many cast members to forge successful acting careers.

“Empire,” a musical drama, revolves around the Lyon family, owners of the prominent hip-hop record label Empire Entertainment. The story was about a succession triggered by the terminal illness of Lucious Lyon, the family head and CEO of the company.

Howard portrays the role of Lucious Lyon, while Henson, Jussie Smollett, Bryshere Y, Gray, and Trai Byers play other vital members. In a recent update from Variety, Henson, the feisty Lucious’ wife, will be a part of the upcoming Peacock limited series, “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist.”

Henson will team up with co-star Howard and director Craig Brewer. The logline for the show goes thus: “The infamous story of how an armed robbery during the night of Muhammed Ali’s historic 1970 comeback fight changed not only one man’s life but an entire city’s destiny.”

“Empire” was a massive hit throughout its run on Fox, amassing millions of views and receiving positive reviews. This was especially true in its earlier seasons. However, despite its initial success, the pandemic suddenly stopped production, leading to an unforeseen end after six seasons.

Sadly, the show could not end with a proper series finale. Howard moved on to other projects after “Empire’s” quick ending. He appeared in notable shows like “The Best Man: The Final Chapter,” “Triumph,” and the period drama “The Walk.”

Henson, another notable figure from Empire, continues to make waves in the entertainment industry with her roles in several shows and movies. One of her recent successes includes the award-winning “The Color Purple.” She received several accolades for her nuanced portrayal of Shug Avery.

Despite their pre-existing success, Henson and Howard found “Empire” a pivotal moment in their careers. The show served as a springboard for them and other cast members. On the other hand, Gray and Grace Byers proceeded with their acting journeys with no significant experience before the show.

Post “Empire,” Grace appeared in Harlem and the black comedy slasher, “The Blackening,” showcasing her versatility. Meanwhile, Gray will also feature in “Dutch 2: Angel’s Revenge.” Trai Byers, known for his portrayal of Andre Lyon and also married to Grace, went into co-writing.

Additionally, he starred in the historical drama film, “The 24th.” Although “Empire” ended abruptly, you can stream all seasons on Hulu. So, as the anticipation for the upcoming intensifies, are you ready for this shutdown? Yes, you should be, given the brief logline.
