Music stars have been known to take breaks from the spotlight after a stint of popularity. Most often than not, it has to do with refueling and working on new sounds.
Music stars work hard to please their fans, churning out sounds from time to time to keep their signature rhythm going. However, sometimes, singers need to take some time off the radar.
This has to do with taking music breaks and many music stars have been known to indulge in the reclusive period. From Ed Sheeran to Selena Gomez, here are musicians who took breaks from their careers.
Lorde
Lorde broke into the music scene in the 2010s with her hit single, “Royal.” After a while, fans did not hear much from her. She later shared in an interview that she retreated to her hometown to find herself. Lorde was off the music scene for over two years.
Ed Sheeran
The red-head music pro took a break from both social media and the music scene hoping to experience life away from the screen. Sheeran once shared about his absence. He explained, “I feel like life is all about balance, and my life wasn’t balanced. Taking it all off the scale balanced it, oddly enough.”
Eminem
The rap icon is known as one of the most reclusive stars because of how he stays silent in the industry. The “Stan” crooner’s long absence started in 2006 after he lost his best friend. Since then Eminem has been on and off the spotlight.
Shania Twain
The Country singer released her first album in 15 years, back in 2017. But before then, Twain took a six-year break from music. The star developed nodules on her vocal cords and when she returned to the music scene embarked on a tour.
Selena Gomez
The star singer and actress announced in August 2016, that she would be taking a break from her career. The “The Heart Wants What It Wants” crooner revealed she needed to take care of her health.
Gomez shared that she was dealing with panic attacks and depression which she attributed to her lupus diagnosis. The announcement came amid her “Revival” world tour. Her hiatus from the music scene lasted 90 days.
Adele
Adele might be back in the game but the singer is known for taking noticeable hiatuses from the industry. The “Someone Like You” singer made her debut in the early 2010s and snagged multiple awards in the wake of her phenomenal music.
In 2012, after Adele bagged six Grammy awards, she announced a four to five-year break. Within this period she got married to her now ex-husband, Simon Konecki. She would later announce another hiatus to take care of her young son.
Sam Smith
The “Too Good At Goodbye” crooner made beautiful music for three consecutive years before deciding he needed to cool off. In a 2015 interview, Smith said it felt right for him to step back and enjoy life as a 23-year-old.
