Some after the incident and the arrival of emergency services at the scene, Grayson was sighted speaking with another law enforcement officer. Grayson told the officer “Yeah I’m good, this f**king b*tch is crazy.” He stated that Massey had boiling water and came at him with it. Additionally, Grayson claimed that Massey said she was going to rebuke me in the name of Jesus.

Sonya Massey’s Family Speaks

Since 2020, there has been an increase in the number of black women who have been gunned down and killed in their homes by the police. Massey became the third high-profile police shooting after the cases of Breonna Taylor and Atatiana Jefferson. Crump has connected her death to past police brutality against black people in the US

Additionally, Crump stated that he finds it hard to comprehend that a lady could contact the police in protection only to be killed by them. The accusations, according to Crump, represent “an significant milestone in the pursuit of justice for the family of Sonya Massey.”

As stated in Crump’s press release from Wednesday, July 17, 2024, “This news is a step toward justice for Sonya’s loved ones, especially her children, who have suffered unbearably since learning of this tragedy.” We are still dedicated to learning the facts about what transpired and figuring out the shortcomings that made this terrible death possible. Crump states that Massey’s funeral took place early on Friday, July 19, 2024.

Wilburn said he was informed that some prowlers had broken in and killed his daughter.

However, it wasn’t until his brother read about the incident online that he knew what happened. Wilburn stated that the police never told him that a deputy was involved in the shooting.
