Simone Biles’ short bob has been making waves on social media. This is not unexpected, given the unusual attention her fans seem to pay to her hair. The decorated gymnast showed off the hair transformation at the Country Music Association Awards on Wednesday night when she hit the red carpet solo at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
Simone Biles’ husband, Jonathan Owens, was not in attendance. The NFL star is in Chicago, where the Bears are preparing for a matchup with the Vikings in Minnesota. Nobody knows for sure when the Olympic medalist cut her hair.
She still had her hair styled in a long ponytail on Sunday, November 17, when the Bears were defeated by the Packers 20-19 at Soldier Field in Chicago. Before that, she was pictured rocking long curls for the Bears’ home loss to the Patriots, 19-3, on November 10.
Did Simone Biles Cut Her Hair?
No, she did not. However, Simone Biles styled it in a short bob, which she debuted at the CMAs on Wednesday. According to celebrity hairstylist Justin Revenge, Simone Biles wanted a voluminous ’90s glam look for the event. She wore a metallic gown with an off-the-shoulder sleeve and pointed stilettos.

The gymnast also changed her outfit twice during the 58th annual show. She wore a sparkling metallic pantsuit by VICI to present the Female Vocalist of the Year award to Lainey Wilson. She wore a black tank top underneath the oversized blazer and topped it off with black heels.
Later, Biles changed into a strapless red mini dress paired with white cowboy boots for the CMA afterparty at Music City Center. It is one of her latest public appearances since she revealed she has been resting after the Paris Olympics.
“I try to rest as much as possible. But it’s always fun to get opportunities to come and do stuff like this because it’s fun walking the carpet and meeting new people,” she said ahead of the CMA Awards.
Does Simone Biles Chemically Straighten Her Hair?
Simone Biles’ short bob may make it look like she uses chemicals in her hair, but the decorated athlete does not chemically straighten her hair.
Her hairstylist sometimes transforms her natural and coarse-textured hair into a style that makes people question whether she uses chemical straighteners or relaxers. Despite the questions and rumors from fans, Simone Biles’ stylist has confirmed that the athlete’s hair is natural and devoid of any relaxers.
What Did Simone Biles Say About Her Edges?
In the past, Simone Biles has received many comments about her hair, some of which were not flattering. She once admitted that she used to worry about her hair being considered unprofessional because of how it looked. But things have changed.
Biles is now confident and embraces her natural hair. The Olympic medalist said, “Most of the backlash we get is from our own community, which is unfortunate. I don’t really care if my edges aren’t smooth.”
For the Olympian, taking control over her haircare routine has boosted her confidence. She owes that control to having access to beauty tutorials from Black content creators who discuss products and styles to try.
“We’ve been able to take care of our hair better and take care of our beauty routines better because it’s self-taught,” she said. “It’s really special that we have access to those platforms.”
What Comments Were Made About Simone Biles’ Hair?
On July 30, Simone Biles took to her Instagram Stories to share a video featuring her and other Olympians on a 45-minute bus ride amidst the heatwave sweeping through Paris. In the video, Biles, 27, can be seen using a handheld fan to try and keep cool, and her hair was pulled back in a ponytail.

Many of her fans commented that her hair looked rough, prompting Biles to correct them sweetly but firmly. “Don’t come for me about my hair,” she captioned the video. “IT WAS DONE, but the bus has no AC, and it’s like 9,000 degrees.”
Her next post was a photo of her smiling with her eyes closed in her blank tank top and it came with an advice. She wrote, “gonna hold your hand when I say this,” then added, “next time you want to comment on a Black girl’s hair, JUST DON’T.”
