Following Sean “Diddy” Combs’ arrest on Monday, September 16, 2024, his former protege, Moses ‘Shyne’ Barrow, is speaking out. Barrow is a Belize politician and former member of Diddy’s record label, Bad Boys.
In a press interview held in his home country of Belize, Barrow discussed how Combs almost destroyed his life. Barrow, the Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives of Belize, shared his opinions about the recent arrest of Combs.
Shyne Barrow Reveals How Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Ruined His Life
Speaking on his time with Combs, Shyne said, “When I was an 18-year-old kid, I just wanted to do nothing other than make my mother proud and make Belize proud and be recognized for my talent and take over the world.”
He added, “I was defending him, and he turned around and called witnesses to testify against me. He pretty much sent me to prison.”
Without providing details to back up his charges, Barrow continued, “Let’s not lose sight of what the cold hard facts are. This is not someone who I vacationed with and someone who I enjoyed this great, intimate relationship of brotherhood.”

Subsequently, Barrow rounded off his statement, saying Combs destroyed his life, and he forgave him and moved on. However, he noted that it was “for the better interest of Belize” because Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was in the position at that time to give scholarships and maybe to invest.
“I would not deny attempting to bring the investment to Belize and bring the contributions to education,” Shyne Barrow added. When asked if he ever participated in Combs’ “freak-offs” during his time as Combs’ protege, Barrow said no.
For context, following a nightclub shooting that left three people injured, Barrow was found guilty of first-degree assault in 1999. Although Combs was also arrested and charged, he was later acquitted of all charges after pleading self-defense.
What Shyne Barrow’s Mother Said About Him During His Trial Years Ago
In 2001, Shyne Barrow received a 10-year prison sentence and was released in 2009. Subsequently, after he was released, he was deported back to Belize. Addressing the assault allegation, Barrow said, “Under no circumstances whatsoever did I have anything to do with a shooting.
Following his arrest and subsequent incarceration, Barrow always maintained that he fired into the air. Additionally, one of the victims stated in 2001 that she had seen Combs fire a gun. Speaking on his mother’s reaction to his incarceration, Barrow noted that when his mother used to visit, she used to see him on the floor.
“My mother couldn’t look at me; she would start to shake, and she would go off the floor and go to the bathroom. I couldn’t process that because if I cried in front of her, then that would make her life go to shambles,” he said.
“If I cried in front of the prison guard, they would think that I was weak. So I go back to the yard, lift weights, smoke a cigar, and act like nothing happened.”

Who Is Shyne Barrow’s Wife?
After deportation from the U.S. in 2009, Shyne Barrow moved to Jerusalem before returning to Belize in 2013. Subsequently, in 2017, Barrow married a businesswoman, Catherine Barrow, and in 2018, they welcomed their daughter, Naomi Barrow.
In 2020, a police report was released accusing Barrow of kicking 31-year-old Catherine in the back. However, the allegation was denied by the couple, who insisted it was just a verbal misunderstanding.
“I unequivocally condemn domestic violence or any violence against women.” My wife and I had an argument, as happens in all marriages. Ours was nothing more than a verbal dispute,” Barrow wrote. “A statement was given that does not reflect what happened. My wife has withdrawn that statement, and we have put this private matter behind us.”
Where Is Shyne Barrow Now?
Following his incarceration, release, and deportation, Shyne Barrow was appointed Belize Music and Goodwill Ambassador in May 2010. In October 2012, he endorsed Republican nominee Mitt Romney for president of the United States. This came as no shock, as Barrow had been a notable critic of Obama’s administration.
After returning to Belize, Barrow turned away from making music and began focusing on a career in politics. In 2020, Barrow was elected to the Belize House of Representatives. Subsequently, in June 2021, Barrow was appointed the Opposition Leader in the House of Representatives.

Shyne Barrow is not a Prime Minister yet. After he was elected, Barrow’s program focused mostly on improving the living conditions of his country. Part of his program requests the government to reduce student loan rates, enhance the legal system, increase police salaries, and ensure better governance in Belize.

In August 2021, he made a state visit to the U.S., speaking with US lawmakers for the first time since he was deported.
