During Donald Trump’s hush money trial, it was discovered that Serena Williams was on the former president’s frequent call list. However, despite attempts by various media outlets, the tennis star has refused to speak on the matter. Additionally, she has refused to address the nature of her relationship with Trump.
Williams, at the age of 40, ended her professional tennis career in 2022, amidst applause and ovations. The now 42-year-old retiree is acknowledged as the greatest female tennis player of all time and one of the sport’s most prominent icons. However, in a recent interview, Williams was confronted about being on Trump’s contact list.
On Saturday, June 15, 2024, The New York Times published its interview with Williams. In response to an earlier inquiry, William had asked what the interview was actually about. Consequently, David Marchese, the interviewer, replied that he was just curious to know what people spoke about on a call to a president.
William had responded that Trump was not the first president she had spoken to, claiming she had been speaking with presidents all her life. She said she had spoken with Barack Obama, the Clintons, and even Ronald Reagan. Marchese asked what the presidents had discussed with her and what they wanted to know. Willam responded that she had no idea and was not willing to discuss it.

On Thursday, May 30, 2024, Trump was found guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying his business records. The falsification has come from an effort by Trump to conceal a $130,000 hush payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels, with whom he had alleged an affair in 2006.
Although it was Trump who made the direct payment, Trump has reimbursed his lawyer, Michael Cohen, and classified the payment as legal fees.
Willam was brought into the trial when evidence showed her as one of Trump’s frequent contacts in 2017 after Trump was sworn in. In May 2024, Trump’s former White House executive assistant, Madeleine Westerhout, went to the stands to testify.

During her testimony, prosecutors showed emails between Westerhout and Rhona Graff, a worker for the Trump Organization. In the email, Westerhout told Graff to put together a list of people the former president was in constant communication with.
Westerhout had said she had intention to disturb Graff but she would still call her. The email was sent on January 24, 2017. Subsequently, Graff sent a spreadsheet detailing his frequent contact list, a list that included Williams.

Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, who testified against him during the trial, and former CFO of the Trump Organization, Allen Weisselberg were among the others listed. Among them were Joe Scarborough, Jeanine Pirro, and Bill O’Reilly, three cable news hosts from the past and present.
When the two played one other in April 2015 at festivities for a new tennis center at the Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia, Williams is alleged to have allowed Trump to score a point. Trump declared his first campaign for president that summer.
