The internet is up in flames over rumors of Serena Williams bleaching. However, the retired tennis legend is not letting any rumors slide. She recently rebuffed trolls who criticized her alleged decision to bleach her skin to look more white.
Williams is no stranger to cruel rumors. She usually doesn’t care enough to address them. However, this time, the tennis champ did not keep quiet. Here is how she responded to allegations of bleaching her skin.
Serena Williams Bleaching Comments Got Her Irritated
Williams has been in the public eye since she was young and has seen her fair share of cruel rumors and speculation. Still, this one seemed to have gotten under her skin, as she used a spicy tone while talking about it.
In a stream captured by Live Bitez, Williams addressed the skin-bleaching talks. The video excerpt begins with the talented tennis icon’s tone dripping with sarcasm, explaining suntans and their work. “For you haters out there. I do not bleach my skin. There is a thing called sunlight, and in that sunlight, you get different colors,” Serena said.
Williams tagged the bleaching comments as “ridiculous.” She blamed her skin tone variation on retouching photos and select moments, like when she put on stage makeup during her daughter’s play.
“I’m a dark black woman, and I love who I am, and I love how I look, and that’s just not my thing. And if people do it, that’s their thing, and they have every opportunity, and they should,” she said.
Williams claimed that while the world may judge people who bleach, she does not and she just wants to stay in that lane. “But no, I actually don’t bleach my skin, so can we just kinda clear that up?” she said.
The Rumors Follow Her Husband’s Recent Surgery
Hopefully, Serena Williams’ bleaching rumors will end with her clapback video. After all, the retired athlete has bigger fish to fry. Her husband, Alexis Ohanian, recently got thyroid surgery after experiencing a cancer scare and is now in recovery.
According to what the 41-year-old revealed on Thanksgiving, he had half of his thyroid removed because they detected “suspicious nodules.” The nodules had increased in size over the last four years, and Alexis Ohanian’s family has a history of cancer deaths, so he didn’t want to take any risks.
“I wasn’t gonna take any chances; the surgery was smooth, and I’m extra grateful this Thanksgiving because I got the call this morning that my now-removed-half-of-thyroid was indeed full of some gnarly nodules that were very likely to become cancerous,” Alexis wrote.
“The worst part, tbh, has been not being able to lift for 2 weeks, but big fella will be back at it next week, and I took my girls to Disney World this week, so life is wonderful.”
Has Serena Williams Lightened Her Skin?
Rumors of Serena Williams bleaching have spread recently, but she has come out to dispel them, claiming the rumors are precisely that: rumors. If it looks like she has been bleaching, the tennis star blamed suntan, camera angles, and makeup.
