After nearly two decades, Scott Peterson, the man who was convicted of murdering his pregnant wife, Laci, and their unborn son, Conner, has come back to court.
Peterson, who has always said that he is innocent of the crimes he has been accused of, appeared remotely from prison to talk about the concerns regarding the sealing of documents related to his case. Prosecutors argued that much of the information in these documents is already in the public.
During the brief 20-minute hearing, Peterson, now 51 years old, did not speak much, he only spoke when directly addressed by the judge. He wore a simple blue collared shirt which contrasted with the intensity of the proceedings. The Los Angeles Innocence Project has taken up Peterson’s case, trying to get him on a new trial case.
Some pieces of evidence that made Peterson appear very guilty during his original trial were His affair with Amber Frey, who cooperated with law enforcement, provided some really interesting testimony.

Frey told the police in April 2003 that Peterson had confessed to her about his wife’s death before she went missing, and the court documents showed recorded calls also which showed that Peterson was thinking about getting a vasectomy, which can mean that he never wants to be a father.
Peterson’s alibi, claiming he was fishing in Berkeley when his wife vanished, faced skepticism, especially after Laci’s remains were found in the San Francisco Bay.
Moreover, Peterson’s peculiar behavior following Laci’s disappearance seemed very suspicious as well. He bleached his hair, was carrying a large sum of cash, and was even with his brother’s passport near the Mexican border where it seemed like he was about to leave the country.
Scott Peterson’s defense tried to blame the death of his pregnant wife on some burglars, but the prosecution argued against these claims, showing how that the burglary in question had happened after Laci got missing.

Peterson was originally sentenced to death but was later overturned. Though he has been appealing for a new trial, they have all been unsuccessful. Now, the focus has shifted to new DNA testing, particularly on a hammer and a stained mattress that was found near the crime scene.
Although nothing has been said for now, Peterson’s defense team is hoping that the DNA will be tested and then much more evidence might come up to support him.

Everyone is waiting for the hearings scheduled to address DNA evidence and what was discovered from them. Peterson has not had any good times, first arrested in 2004. As time continues to pass, everyone as well as Peterson himself who has claimed to not be guilty is hoping that justice will be served promptly.
